    Job Summary

    Responsibilities

    • Assist classroom teachers in creating a safe and welcoming atmosphere where students feel high expectations of learning.
    • Implement on-site and community-based curriculum instruction and behavioral intervention strategies aligned with student goals and objectives.
    • Instruct and monitor students during lessons, ensuring fidelity of instruction and utilizing strategies to support learning and course completion.
    • Encourage and monitor student progress, communicating with classroom teachers on overall progress or interventions needed.
    • Manage student behavior by upholding ChanceLight's philosophy and policies, applying disciplinary measures when necessary, and working collaboratively with classroom teachers for consistency.
    • Support and counsel students with academic issues, providing encouragement and assistance in improving skills.
    • Document student behavior accurately and timely, reporting observations to relevant staff and making recommendations as needed.
    • Assist in preparing behavioral reports and daily activity logs as required.
    • Communicate student needs and progress to team members, supervisors, and parents in collaboration with the classroom teacher and principal.
    • Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.
    • Participate in assurance and accreditation processes to ensure site performance plans are met.
    • Participate in school, student/parent, and student advisory meetings as requested.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent with basic skills test passage.
    • Associate degree or higher in education or a related field preferred.
    • Licensed paraprofessional, paraeducator, teaching assistant, or similar credential preferred.
    • GACE certification required.
    • Prior experience working with children, preferably in special education settings.
    • Skills in working with autism spectrum-related disabilities, emotional behavioral disorders, and challenging behaviors.
    • Ability to think and act quickly in emergency situations and make independent decisions.
    • Proficiency in motivation and critical conversations with students to help them achieve realistic goals.
    • Advanced communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
    • Knowledge of relevant technology, including instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
