Job summary
Under direction of the radiation oncologist, lead therapist, and chief therapist, the radiation therapist will be responsible for ensuring the most optimal radiation therapy treatments are provided to our patients.
Responsibilities
- Maintains an atmosphere of caring, concern and support for patients, visitors, medical staff and co-workers on a consistent basis
- Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include checking schedules organizing patient flow accompanying patients to treatment area assisting patients as needed with walking transfers and preparing for treatment
- Performs warm-up calibration checks of equipment as necessary performs linear accelerator HDR and CT warm-up procedures checks photon beams all electron beams for consistency checks physic components for accuracy of beam alignment documents findings outside the range established by physics notifies lead radiation therapist/physicist/chief therapist immediately of findings outside the normal range of operations
- Fabricates blocks molds bolus material immobilization devices as needed accurately delivers radiation treatment according to written prescription and treatment plan provides safety and patient care through consistent practice departmental procedures for treatment administration recognizes deviation from prescribed treatment delivery reports all deviations to lead radiation therapist/physicist/chief therapistaAssures quality treatment delivery complete accurate documentation
- Treatment records assures quality consistency portal placement taking portal films CBCT or KV imaging according to departmental procedures adjusts fields indicated under directon physician takes localization radiographs CBCT or OBI Images planned treatmen procedure assists physician nurse adminstration contrast agents used during treatmen localizatin collects documents data acquired simulation proceure accuratly inputs related date verify-record system liAssists in all treatmen-related procedur including but not limited external beam radiation therapyalsoUses effective communication techniques interpersonal skills provide explanations treatmen-related procedur explains procedure patien communicates durin tratment processeffectively responds patien concerns assesses patiens physical emotional needs observes pations expected unexected reactionstreatments communicats appropraite staff memberreinforces patie educ/side effect manage inform info indicats non-compliance medical/nursing staf coordinats completes daily tratment schedual effectively maintain accurate record procedur billing informatio codes maintans safe orderly patienc/treatment room prepares rooom equipmet necesary prepare paient field sizetreat distancelead protection deveces answer phone call machine when not treater therapischecks phone message hourly return calls lunch midafternoon prior leaving day work shifs assignedaAll therapists rotate work shifts/location clinical neadsperform initial weekly chart cheks on all radition therapy paits perform duties assigned lead radiatortherapist(s)chiet therapiestradiation director
