Description
Established Anne Arundel County construction company with projects in the Maryland, DC and Virginia areas is currently seeking a VP of Finance. Directly reporting to the CFO, the VP Finance will be responsible for monitoring the financial health, stability, and growth of the organization. This role requires a hands-on professional with excellent leadership skills, financial acumen, a deep understanding of the construction industry and the desire and capability to grow into the CFO role.
Responsibilities:
· Direct the accounting, tax, and financial reporting functions of the company.
· Manage the month-end close process, including Work in Progress schedules, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.
· Lead the annual budgeting process, prepare financial forecasts, variance analyses, and financial reports for executive management and stakeholders.
· Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets, ensure financial integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements.
· Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and tax obligations.
· Collaborate with project executives and managers to monitor project financial performance, analyze variances, and recommend corrective action as needed.
· Build and lead a high-performing finance team, providing guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
· Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the finance department.
· Support the Treasury and Cash Management functions.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
· CPA, CCIFP, or other relevant professional certifications is highly desirable.
· 5 to 10 years of proven experience as a controller or VP Finance in the construction industry.
· In-depth knowledge of construction accounting principles, project costing, and contract management.
· Expertise with construction-specific ERP systems, financial software, and MS Office applications.
· Strong financial analysis, modeling, and forecasting skills.
· Excellent communication and presentation skills.
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across departments.
· Strategic thinker with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.
· Demonstrated leadership ability with a track record of driving results and managing change effectively.
