    Blackfield Associates are currently assisting a large biologics manufacturer in Connecticut with their search for a Lead Automation Engineer on a staff hire basis.

    This is a key hire and so we are open to engaging in discussions immediately.


    This role presents an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional to lead transformative initiatives in automation and controls within a dynamic pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.


    Role Overview:


    The Lead Automation Engineer, is tasked with spearheading the design, development, programming and implementation of innovative systems and controls for future pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and plant automation.

    This pivotal role reports directly to the site lead for systems and controls.

    The incumbent will provide comprehensive support for facility, utility, manufacturing, and packaging-related control systems, utilising hands-on leadership to drive programming, installation, and configuration efforts.


    Responsibilities:

    • Lead the design, development, and implementation of control systems ensuring full compliance with FDA regulations.
    • Provide support for facility, utility, manufacturing, and packaging-related control systems, including troubleshooting and resolution of discrepancies.
    • Manage current and future equipment purchases, vendor selection, and labor contracting.
    • Develop and execute design of experiments, analyse results, and prepare technical reports.
    • Coordinate control-related activities across departments including validation, process engineering, facilities engineering, manufacturing, and quality.
    • Support and perform system calibrations.
    • Lead projects and tasks related to control system projects, schedules, and other necessary project activities.

    Required Skills & Experience:

    • Bachelor's or technical degree in engineering controls or a related field with deep experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
    • Proficiency in Allen-Bradley PLC programming, RsLogix5000, FactoryTalk SE/ME (HMI), servo drives, and other relevant software.
    • Strong understanding of industrial controllers, networking, and communication protocols.
    • In-depth knowledge of GAMP5, S88, S95, and 21 CFR Part 11 standards.
    • Familiarity with Siemens platforms, motion control, vision systems, fieldbus communications, robotics, and safety PLCs is a plus.
    • Excellent project management skills, PMP certification is a bonus.
    • Ability to work independently, lead teams, and manage cross-functional assignments effectively.
    • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, AutoCAD, and other relevant software.
    • Willingness to work onsite and collaborate closely with mechanics, production engineers, and interns.
