Since 1891, Engert Mechanical has served the Knoxville and East Tennessee communities in Plumbing, HVAC and Mechanical Piping. We are growing our team Engert is looking for reliable individuals who have experience in commercial and industrial plumbing and piping.
The Mechanical / HVAC Estimating Lead is responsible for leading the mechanical estimating function, delivering accurate and competitive project estimates, and supporting the company�s preconstruction and business development efforts. This role combines hands-on estimating expertise with leadership, collaboration, and strategic pricing insight. The Estimating Lead works closely with preconstruction, operations, and senior leadership to refine estimating processes, mentor team members, manage risk, and drive continuous improvement across mechanical and HVAC project pursuits.
Key Responsibilities:
� Evaluate and understand the bidding documents as it relates to a specific project.
� Perform accurate and detailed labor and material take-offs for HVAC and mechanical systems to include sheet metal ductwork, hydronic piping, steam and specialized process piping.
� Interact and effectively communicate with vendors and subcontractors for evaluation and solicitation of quotes related to specific projects.
� Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits, as needed.
� Develop and maintain positive relationships with trade partners and project stakeholders, such as engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors.
� Collaborate with project operations during project hand-offs, and throughout a project lifespan.
� Maintain up-to-date knowledge of codes, labor applications, and material enhancements.
� Support value engineering and design assist efforts and recommend cost-saving alternatives and ideas where applicable.
Qualifications:
� 7+ years of experience in estimating and take-off of HVAC and mechanical projects, with a focus on heavy commercial, healthcare, industrial, and institutional type projects.
� Strong understanding of HVAC and mechanical systems.
� Plumbing estimating experience is a plus.
� Proficiency with the Trimble suite of estimating software, to include AutoBid Mechanical (ABMC) and AutoBid Sheet Metal (ABSM), or related programs.
� Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Excel, Word, Power Point).
� Proficiency with Adobe and/or Bluebeam.
� Ability to read, interpret, and understand construction documents (e.g. blueprints, schematics, and technical literature).
� Strong math, analytic, and organizational skills
� Familiarity with Customer Relations Management (CRM) web-based platforms.
� Excellent communication and collaboration capabilities.
� Background in mechanical contracting or engineering.
� Familiarity with local and national building codes.
� Experience in design-build and design-assist environments
