Granite City Works:
you gear up, check your tools, and head to the production floor where massive equipment hums and materials move nonstop.
As a Utility Technician supporting mill operations, you'll help keep the line moving by handling materials, operating basic and mobile equipment, and pitching in on equipment upkeep across the plant.
A day in the lifeUse hand tools, pneumatic equipment, gauges, oxygen lances, power-actuated tools, and torches to support production and service units.
Handle, transport, and process materials and product across the mill.
Work safely around hot, heavy, or sharp materials and hazardous chemicals.
Assist with equipment inspections and basic maintenance tasks.
Operate mobile equipment in a heavy industrial setting.
Adapt to changing assignments in different mill areas — conditions can be hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy, and you may work near molten metal.
Your growth path
After brief on-the-job training, you will be expected to move into a Utility Technician role operating overhead and mobile cranes of various sizes and types, tractors, trucks, dozers, loaders, boom trucks, and feeders.
High School Diploma or GED.
Ability to perform manual labor and lift more than 25 lbs.
Rotating 8-hour shift work, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Overtime as needed.
Strong safety mindset and adherence to all procedures; required PPE includes hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, boots with metatarsal protection, and when necessary, respirator equipment.
Punctuality, consistent attendance, and self-direction.Must pass a pre-employment digital assessment.

Compensation
Starting base pay rate $22.82/hr. plus incentive pay which increases to $28.53/hr. plus incentive pay after probation is completed. The starting base pay range is a good faith estimate.
