CAMP LEADERSHIP
• Serve as part of the camp's leadership team. Attend daily unit leadership meetings.
• Contribute to the overall positive morale of the camp community. Address any problems or questions as they arise and resolve conflicts as needed.
• Directly responsible for health and welfare of all participants. Involved in daily lives of campers and counselors, update directors with concerns on consistent basis.
• Serve as a role model and support for all counselors.
• Maintain a consistent presence as a leader within the camp community with respect to role modeling and staying up to date on institutional and racial equity, diversity, and inclusion (REDI) principles, practices, Jewish values, supervision and accountability for all rules and procedures, and dedication in all respects to the camp's mission and vision.
TRAINING, SUPERVISION & SUPPORT
• Supervise and support all campers and counselors living in the dorms in each circle, including meaningful day-to-day interaction with each counselor and camper. Communicate information and expectation setting for the entire group.
• Support individual campers as they acclimate to life at camp, grow towards their potential and become a part of the total camp community.
• In partnership with Directors, train and supervise counselors.
• Assist in expectation setting and provide regular evaluations and feedback to counselors, both formally and informally.
• Schedule counselor days off and daily time off.
• Assist in planning, preparation and implementation of evening programs, special events and weekly nighttime staff programs
• Hold daily check-in meetings with dorm staff teams
• Ensure completion of daily camper status reports
• Ensure consistent, ongoing camper letter writing
• Oversee the planning and implementation of engaging evening programming
Required Skills:
To be successful in this job, you excel in the following areas:
• Youth Engagement & Mentorship. Positive role model who supports Jewish life and community and can demonstrate Jewish values. Enjoys being with and providing guidance to children. Background in informal education, experiential teaching, or program coordination is desirable. Leads by example, demonstrating a well-developed sense of responsibility with good judgement and common sense. Possess a significant level of Jewish Education and desire to shar that knowledge with campers.
• Residential Camping. Residential camp experience is highly preferred. Willingness to embrace the mission and vision of camp. Understand the nature of camp life and can adjust plans accordingly and maintain a level of flexibility.
• Training & Supervision. Staff supervision and training ensuring the inclusion of the most up to date REDI practices. Patient, compassionate, and approachable, serving as a mentor for all counselors.
• Communication. Effective and efficient communication and listening skills. Ability to manage large groups of people and communicate publicly.
• Flexibility & Creativity. Confident decision maker. Able to think on feet and operate in high pressure situations.
• REDI Experience (Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion). Demonstrated experience and ongoing commitment to prioritizing and executing on Racial Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (i.e., ableism, LGBTQ+ Inclusion, antiracism, etc.) priorities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Live in residence at camp during summer.
