    Scope

    We are seeking a Retail Accountant in our Pleasantville, NY office. The Retail Accountant will work closely with the Finance team to ensure the financial statements are prepared in a timely and accurate matter and work closely with Retail Operations to put proper policies and procedures in place to safeguard our assets. This position reports directly to the Controller.

    Primary Job Responsibilities

    The Retail Accountant will be responsible for the following:

    • Perform month-end close duties in accordance with established closing schedule, including but not limited to preparation of journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and amortizations.
    • Preparation and review of balance sheet account reconciliations.
    • Preparation of the monthly cost of goods sold accrual that requires analyzing large data sets to prepare vendor trend analysis and lag tables to assist in determining appropriate accrual.
    • Support the general ledger and monthly financial close process through preparation of month-end journal entries and account reconciliations related to inventory and cost of goods sold accounts.
    • Coordinate and oversee execution of physical inventory and cycle counts in retail locations.
    • Monitor and report on inventory, shrink, as well as, ad-hoc analysis, and other inventory/shrink related projects.
    • Reconcile/analyze inventory on-hand and physical inventory counts within all retail locations.
    • Collaborate with Retail Operations, Buying, Planning, Allocations, Loss Prevention, IT, Finance and Distribution Center personnel to perform research and problem solve.
    • Preparation and review of quarterly Inventory valuation entry based on data received from multiple departments and data sets.
    • Analyze and explain factors driving balance sheet and operating expense fluctuations during monthly P&L review related to COGS, OPEX and Insurance accounts.
    • Liaise with external auditors for mid-year and year-end financial statement audits to include preparation of audit schedules and analysis for assigned accounts.
    • Assist internal audit with implementation of SOX controls in related areas and ensure on-going compliance.
    • Ensure the accurate reporting of sales, recovery of cash from credit transactions and control of all store level cash within the business.
    • Monitor and report cash reconciliation for each individual retail store.
    • Collaborate with Retail operations to analyze, monitor and report on multiple retail KPI's io a monthly basis.
    • Monitor CAPEX investments.
    • Assist in gathering of year-end and internal audit documentation, upon request.
    • Assists with ad hoc projects and requests from senior management as needed.

    Salary Range: Up to $80,000.00 contingent upon experience.

    Requirements

    • Minimum of two to five years of experience in accounting with an emphasis on retail.
    • BA/BS degree in accounting, finance, or related field of study.
    • Proficient in Microsoft office including advanced skills in Excel (advanced formulas, pivot tables).
    • Experience with SAP preferred.
    • Strong organization, documentation, and communication skills.
    • Critical thinker and ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to manage time and prioritize multiple deliverables.
    • Ability to proactively identify and assist in implementing opportunities for continuous improvement.
