Overview:

Altorfer Industries is currently seeking a CNC Machinist in our new facility located in Mokena, IL. This position operates machine tools such as CNC machines, lathes, secondary equipment, and grinders to machine components related to, but not limited to engines, cylinder heads, transmissions and other heavy machinery components.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILIITIES (including, but not limited to):

• Machines we operate: Rottler CNC, Kent digital lathe, magnaflux equipment and misc. smaller equipment
• Perform machine setup, operation and startup, restarting the machine, adjusts tooling to maintain proper sizes, replacing broken or worn tooling in a timely manner
• Ability to perform both manual and programmed repairs on the CNC
• Verify conformance of work piece to specifications, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and go-no-go gauges
• Select, align and secure the holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines including mills, lathes, and grinders
• Perform layout and programming on the controls required for set-ups
• Understand how to adjust work offsets
• Understand how to adjust the speed and feed of the machine according to different part specifications
• Understand G-Code and have the ability to custom write programs when needed
• Must be able to effectively communicate machine set up parameters, troubleshoot set-up and operational issues working closely with shop leadership
• Ability to perform intermediate shop math skills and calculations: fraction conversions, divide, multiply, percentages, etc
• Accurate record keeping on our service management software
• Observes daily preventative machine maintenance, general repair and diagnosis
• Ability to recognize and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor; may include department transfers to meet production needs
• General housekeeping of manufacturing areas and equipment to ensure a clean and safe environment including but not limited to sweeping, mopping of the production area and ensuring machinery is clean

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• 4+ Years of CNC machining experience
• Engine component repair knowledge a plus
• G-Code understanding is required

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Ability to perform high quality repairs, in an efficient fashion, and maintain a clean working environment while working in the department. Must be able to work independently. Ability to use resources for information (when written documentation is not available). Has good decision making practices and ability to follow directions . Demonstrates effective communication ability, representing Altorfers professional image to customers and office personnel. Must have good organizational skills and ability to write technical reports. Must have intermediate keyboarding skills with a basic knowledge of Office software, preferably MS Word

This position will work in the field/shop environment. May on a continuous basis carry, bend and lift; up to 75 lbs. May walk and/or stand up to 8 hours in a shift. Will be required to wear appropriate safety equipment (IE- steel toed boots, safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, cut resistant gloves, etc.) for a given situation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Must be flexible to work extra hours if/when needed.
