- Lead engineering oversight for plant systems and manufacturing improvement projects, ensuring work is completed on time and within budget.
- Promote and enforce all safety, regulatory, and company policies related to manufacturing, facilities, and equipment operations.
- Serve as the primary liaison for insurance and risk inspections, coordinating required testing and compliance for fire protection and facility systems.
- Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on process efficiency, equipment reliability, and workplace safety.
- Partner with operations and maintenance teams to troubleshoot issues, eliminate root causes, and optimize performance using CMMS tools.
- Plan facility layouts and equipment configurations to improve workflow, space utilization, and operational efficiency.
- Select, manage, and oversee contractors, ensuring work meets technical specifications, contractual terms, and budget requirements.
- Develop capital project plans defining scope, cost, timelines, and expected operational benefits, and communicate progress to stakeholders.
- Ensure environmental compliance through collaboration with corporate engineering, environmental teams, and external consultants.
- Conduct routine facility assessments to identify maintenance needs, upgrades, and long-term capital improvements.
- Steam Systems: Oversight of steam boiler operations and plant-wide steam distribution, including maintenance planning, upgrades, and regulatory compliance.
- Sawmill Equipment: Engineering support and reliability oversight for heavy-duty equipment such as conveyors, gearboxes, motors, and related systems.
- Veneer Production Equipment: Support of lighter-duty, automation-focused production equipment, including motion control and industrial automation components.
- Mobile Equipment: Supervision of wheeled equipment maintenance, including end loaders and on-site truck fleets.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Five or more years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Prior supervisory experience leading maintenance, plant services, or technical teams.
- Strong project management, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; CMMS experience preferred.
- Experience in hardwood lumber or veneer manufacturing is beneficial but not required.
