    Job Description

    Job DescriptionSUMMARY: Safely and efficiently operate "machining" machines in order to supply parts and components for asphalt plants and related equipment.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES, KNOWLEDGE AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. The work environment duties and characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.     Required Skills:
    • Knowledgeable in basic machine safety to include proper lifting techniques.
    • Basic blue print reading and math skills (basic geometry to figure angles) and decimals and metric conversions.
    • Knowledgeable and able to use tape measure, combination square, levels and radius boards, etc.
    • Able to safely use hand tools to include: hammer, adjustable wrench, air grinder, pencil grinder, and air wrenches.
    • Closely monitor machine while in operation, never leaving immediate work area while machine is in operation, and be ready to respond to breakdowns quickly in order to shut down machine.
    • Be able to read cut lists (basic reading skills and knowledge of materials – types of steel Able to safely operate cranes and forklifts.
    • Be able to do some layout work.
    • Review operator manual(s) for saw, drill and mill for safe and appropriate operation (to include preventive maintenance).
    • Clock in properly on assigned jobs, as appropriate.
    • Keep work area neat and clean.
    • Must follow all Astec, Inc. safety rules and requirements.
    • Must follow all company policy requirements.
    • Must be able to meet regular attendance requirements.
    REASONING ABILITY
    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; and ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop and kneel, or crawl; and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of injury in a shop and warehouse environment and asphalt plant environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the shop and asphalt plant environment is occasionally very loud.
