    Overview:
    At Mahaska Health the primary role of the

    Estimate Specialist

    is to notify patients of their out-of-pocket dollar amounts for services performed at Mahaska Health. This position does all pre-service out of pocket estimates for high dollar Radiology, surgeries, CCIC and office procedures. Estimates are created for each patient based on their insurance of self-pay status. This position also collects the pre-service payment when possible.


    Responsibilities:
    Essential Job Functions include but are not limited to:
    Registration functions vary by location and/or department.


    Functions may include the following:


    Using the EPIC electronic health record, this position determines a patient's out of pocket amount for upcoming procedures or radiology services at Mahaska Health.

    Figures the patients deductible, coinsurance, copay and/or out of pocket maximum for the scheduled service(s).
    Contacts patients through their patient portal, email, texting and phone calls.

    Notating the out-of-pocket amount in EPIC so the registrar checking in the patient is aware that money is due prior to the service.

    Collect payments prior to the procedure being performed.
    Create estimates for high dollar radiology services, surgeries and office procedures.

    Conduct self in accordance with Mahaska Health Partnership's confidentiality policy; ensuring to follow all MHP training guidelines in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.

    Maintain a cooperative working relationship with employees, visitors, medical staff, and patients, keeping in mind the persons unique needs within their age category (refer to Mahaska Healths Age Specific Standards of Care Policy).

    Ability to deal with confidential information.
    Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job.
    Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Attend meetings, as requested.
    All other duties as assigned or requested.


    Qualifications:

    Requirements include but are not limited to:
    High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
    PC proficiency and experience with IP and OP insurance claim filing and reimbursement.
    Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and prioritize work.
    Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude.

    Must have excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to effectively calm patients and be able to deal with distressed and/or agitated patients and their families.

    Will be required to show proof of having completed Mandatory Reporter course at the time of hire or attend within 6 months of the start date.

    Must adhere to all training requirements as mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards.
    Understand and comply with the requirements of MHPs Compliance Program, including,

    but not limited to the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Policy, all supporting policies for

    compliance, and compliance plans affecting specific duties and responsibilities.
    Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by

    Practice policy and as requested by the supervisor.
    Consistently support the Compliance Program through personal example; the provision of

    day-to-day instruction and correction to employees regarding compliance-related issues; application of appropriate discipline as required for compliance violations; and ongoing

    monitoring of activities and work product in areas of responsibility with respect to compliance-related issues.
