- Provides patient care for the Nursing Unit. Assists the Nurse Manager or Resource Nurse in maintaining efficient function of the Unit. Promotes positive public relations through courteous interactions.
- Performs tasks to the functioning of the Nursing Unit and the provision of patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Answers patients' call signals.
- Assists in orientation of new CNA
- May be reassigned to another area to assist in the provision of patient care by Nurse Manager, Staffing Supervisor or Nursing Supervisor
- Performs patient care activities as directed
- Maintains a clean and safe environment
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Must satisfactorily complete a planned orientation program at SwedishHospital
- One year Nursing Assistant or comparable experience preferred, CNA required
- Ability to interact effectively with others
- Ability to effectively handle stress
- Ability to handle confidentiality appropriately
- Must communicate effectively (both written and verbally), be organized and self directed
- Certified as a Nursing Assistant through the state of Illinois
- Current CPR card from American Heart Association
- First contact with visitors, medical staff
- Daily contact with patients, Nursing Staff and other department personnel
- Telephone contact for all inquiries on the Unit
- Relatives
- Patient care related equipment
- May be in an upright position and moving about most of the working time

Computer system access for the Nursing Division is assigned based on criteria as specified in Policy # , and on the minimum necessary as described in this job description.
