    Job Description and Duties

    Under the general direction of a Supervising Special Investigator I, the Investigator will conduct independent field investigations; work as part of a team; or act as a lead on other investigators when assigned. As a Peace Officer under the California Penal Code, Section 830.3(d), detect and/or verify and enforce suspected violations of the California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) rules, regulations, and laws, as well as other related laws.

    Working Conditions

  • The position works primarily at the Santa Anita Park (Arcadia - Los Angeles County) in a typical racetrack environment.
  • The position is required to work periodically at other California racetracks, fairs, and training facilities.
  • Lodging and per diem is provided by the department.
  • The position is required to work irregular hours, holidays, and weekends.
  • The position is required to travel frequently in Southern California and occasionally throughout the State.
  • Position is not eligible for telework.

  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) Psychological Evaluation clearance prior to being hired.
  • The position requires a Peace Officer background investigation clearance prior to appointment.
  • Applicants must possess a current State of California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced Certificate. You will be required to provide a copy of your certificate prior to appointment.

    In accordance with California Government Code, Section 1031, the employee shall meet the following minimum standards:

  • Be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship. Any permanent resident alien shall bedisqualified from holding a position if his or her application for citizenship is denied.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be fingerprinted for purposes of search of local, state, and national fingerprint files to disclose any criminal records.
  • Be found to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition which might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a peace officer. For purposes ofthis section a medical examination, including psychological screen, shall be required prior to appointment.
