Summary:

This position performs all routine and complicatedlaboratory procedures including specimen processing and handling,testing of patient specimens, calculating, and reporting ofresults, performance of quality control procedures, operation andmaintenance of instruments and equipment, assisting in thedevelopment of new procedures and protocols, may perform phlebotomyand other patient-oriented tasks, and may perform other relatedduties as requested or directed.

Responsibilities:

• Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUSCompetencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader ofLeaders.

• Performs all routine and complicatedlaboratory procedures in the primary section to which assignedabout age or sex specific values.

• Operates,maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation andequipment and makes minor repairs as necessary or notifies Bio-medas needed.

• Must cross-train to other laboratorysections as needed.

• Assures that the laboratory'squality control program is properly followed.

•Calculates, enters, and/or verifies results of laboratoryprocedures.

• Utilizes the Laboratory InformationSystem.

• Provides notification and documentation ofcritical laboratory values obtained.

• Processespatient specimens, including collection, handling, and distributionalways cognizant of minimal pediatric specimen volumes (whenrequired).

• Participates in the evaluation,development, and implementation of new or updated testingprocedures and protocols.

• Demonstrates competence toperform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner thatmeets the population-specific and developmental needs of patientsserved by the department.

• Appropriately adaptsassigned patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods toaccommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, agespecific and other developmental needs of each patientserved.

• Demonstrates adherence to the CORE values ofCHRISTUS Health.

• Must complete all requiredcompliance and regulatory tasks and follow all applicable policiesand procedures.

• Performs other duties asassigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree orhigher in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratoryscience or medical technology from an accredited institution orequivalent laboratory training and experience meeting therequirements defined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR includesU. S. Military laboratory training courses of at least 50 weeks) OREducation that has been evaluated by an acceptable credentialingagency and deemed equivalent to a US Bachelor's degree in achemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science ormedical technology.
• One year of experiencerequired for graduates of a clinical laboratory training programapproved or accredited by NAACLS, or other organizations approvedby HHS. OR Two years of approved clinical laboratoryexperience, which must include a clinical rotation through thefollowing sections of the laboratory: Blood Banking, Microbiology,Chemistry, and Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluidsin the U. S. or with an accredited laboratory within the last 5years OR 5 years of experience as a Medical LaboratoryTechnician (MLT II cannot move to a CLS II).
• Must possess Certification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT,AAB, or HEW/HHS.
• • Ifcertification with an expiration date is held, the certificationmust be maintained and keptcurrent.
• New Graduatethat is Board Certified or eligible (must complete BoardCertification in 1 year of hire, Louisiana excluded)
