    Description


    Ascend Elements is revolutionizing the production of lithium-ion battery materials by establishing a clean and sustainable supply chain using recycled feedstock.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for managing laboratory operations to maintain quality and efficiency and safety, monitoring KPIs
    • Responsibility for developing, drafting, and approving all laboratory work instructions, procedures, and policies.
    • Responsible for plant continuous improvement efforts using Lean Six Sigma, Design Thinking, Agile, and
    • Spends time on the floor working with operations to solve problems and helping to deploy QMS
    • Oversee training of laboratory technicians in laboratory procedures and protocols
    • Ensure that sound chemical techniques are applied to the daily workload
    • Review and approve laboratory expenditures, including outside lab testing, shipping, and supply orders
    • Lead the implementing of Quality Management System in all operations. Ensure that all quality control procedures and documentation are in compliance and up to date with ISO9001 or TS.
    • Review and approval of final analysis reports going out to customers both internal and external
    • Independently pursue and have a working knowledge of processes, procedures, or techniques in accordance with company EHS procedure and approved laboratory procedures
    • Provide guidance to the Laboratory Technician to ensure that all laboratory processes are managed with the highest quality and efficiency
    • Approve laboratory supply orders and invoices related to supplies, shipping, and contract services
    • Order repair services for malfunctioning equipment as well as request new equipment with the proper price quotations
    • Conduct the root cause analysis (PFMEA) for any quality incident and failure case
    • Limited travel is required

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Directly supervises 4 8 technicians. Maintenance of all laboratory personnel training, reviews, and goal setting/personal growth
    • Carries out all responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, standard operating procedures and best practices.
    • Responsibilities includes interviewing, hiring, training and mentoring employees; evaluate performance of assigned personnel, monitor performance action plans for employees, improve operational efficiencies by focusing on customer service and maximizing production and profit.
    • Education & Experience:
    • BS required in Chemistry, or related science degrees
    • Background in Lean manufacturing with a BBLSS
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
    • Five years' experience in a chemical testing laboratory, ICP operating preferred
    • More than 3 years in direct staff leadership role, including performance reviews, hiring, growth planning, and scheduling
    • ISO 9001/14001 regulated experience; Strong working knowledge ISO 9001:2015 standards; IATF 16949:2016 proficiency is a plus

    Physical Demands/Work Environment:

    • Potential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and microbiological pathogens
    • Noise level varies from quiet to loud
    • Temperature varies from hot to cold
    • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
    • Color vision and depth perception
    MUST be willing to travel up to 20%; Relocation to Covington GA area mandatory.
