    Job Description Summary

    The Lead Civil/Structural Engineer is designing electrical high voltage substations is an established technical leader across the engineering team who leads the performance of civil & structural work design packages, in committed budget, planning, and quality. Your objective is to plan & lead basic and detailed design (including calculations and studies), to manage/monitor detailed execution progress, and to coordinate execution of civil engineering design work packages done internally or by subcontractors. You must also be able to self-perform the design work. Work packages may integrate documents required for permits, procurement, manufacturing, and site construction. You will provide site support during construction. You will follow customer specifications or requirements and must be knowledgeable of international and local Building Code regulations and internal standards. You also serve as a technical mentor resolving conflicts and certifying finished engineering products as proper and correct--including Professional Engineering reviews and sealing

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Using your experience, demonstrate team leadership--leading & coordinating design teams, including coordinating design efforts across disciplines both internal and external and including consultants and subcontractors. Drive customer submittals on time and under budget through timely reviews and coordination with the lead engineer.
    • Manage technical interface with sub suppliers & partners, prepare input data, and check consistency and quality. Request and lead technical coordination meetings with partners or key suppliers if & when appropriate. The civil project engineer is the technical contact with customer civil engineering teams, especially for efficiently resolving technical and field issues.
    • Analyze customer technical requirements and ensure compliance to customer requirements. Ensure traceability from customer requirements to design/equipment specifications
    • Establish, based on tender and contract analysis, the civil design execution strategy, and the list of documents/studies to produce. Aligned the master document list with project schedule activities.
    • Drive team to provide customers with the best solutions that positively impacts business. Validate technical options proposed to the customer and provide for cost optimization in all design.
    • Must assist project managers with estimates, budgets, schedules, and quality control for civil & structural activities during design and construction phases. Highlights scope or design changes (data for claims, CO's).
    • Informs Project Lead Engineer of design issues all along project execution and proposes solutions for decision; follow solutions agreed up to resolution.
    • Updates risk assessment related to engineering & applies mitigation plan when required
    • Prepares subcontracting bid packages (Scope, Deliverables, Inputs, Schedule). Checks design subcontractor deliverables and performance.

    Essential Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university or college
    • Five (5) years industry related experience designing structural steel and foundations including design of building
    • Licensed as a Civil / Structural Professional Engineer in the United States
    • Ability and willingness to travel 20% of the time

    Desired Qualifications

    • Demonstrates technical mastery with detailed knowledge of theoretical and practical applications in civil and structural engineering related to high voltage electrical substations (such as foundations, steel structures, drainage, underground services, bus & insulators, seismic, etc.) and FACTS
    • Background experience with reviewing architectural and mechanical/electrical/plumbing for buildings
    • Strong presence in front of the customer
    • Knowledge of US electric utility customer design and construction standards & industry codes and standards in North America such as Pacific Gas and Electric and AEP
    • Experience supporting technical tendering teams with innovative, cost efficient, designs and estimating.
    • Site field experience and construction methods impacting civil and structural design
    • Knowledge of seismic design considerations and standards
    • In depth knowledge of structural design software such as STAAD or RISA 3D and foundation design software packages
