    Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences (Johnson Beth-El, JBE) invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor with tenure, as well as to fill the role as Chairperson in the Department of Nursing.

    The primary faculty position is a full-time, 9-month, on-campus appointment. This position is expected to teach, conduct research, and provide service to the department, college, university and/or community.

    The Chairperson appointment is an annual, secondary appointment with a planned start date of July 1, 2024. This secondary role requires 12-month availability and time on-campus. The Chairperson provides leadership, strategic planning, and oversight of the Department of Nursing.

    The Chairperson is an articulate advocate and spokesperson for the Department and College, working effectively with students, staff, faculty, campus leadership, and community partners.

    This position is expected to provide administrative services.

    This position also supports the core strategy of the UCCS 2030 Strategic Plan related to equity, diversity, and inclusion by fostering an accessible, supportive environment and an educational experience that recognizes diversity and cultural competence as integral components of academic excellence.

    Job Duties:
    Final workload determination will be negotiated with the Dean at the time of hire.

    The duties and responsibilities of the primary faculty position with the addition of the secondary appointment include, but are not limited to:

    Administrative/Service - to include the Chair's responsibilities (65%)


    • Engages in various service activities within the Department, College, University, the profession of nursing, and the community.
    • Participates in meetings and other activities that advance the mission and goals of the Department, College and University.
    • Supports the work and role of the Dean, including acting on the Dean's behalf.
    • Participates in the evaluation process of Department staff and faculty.
    • Oversees implementation of system, university, college and departmental policies/procedures for faculty appointment, reappointment, tenure, promotion, termination, and dismissal.
    • Provides guidance in the advising and recruitment of students.
    • Provides oversight regarding curriculum evaluation and implementation.
    • Coordinates course scheduling and associated faculty teaching responsibilities.
    • Provides Department level strategic direction and leadership.
    • Develops, implements, interprets, and evaluates Department policies and procedures.
    • In collaboration with the Dean and College Finance Accounting Manager, manages Department resources, including personnel, facilities, and operating budgets, and makes recommendations and implements actions to increase revenue.
    • Works with the Assistant Dean for Interprofessional Education to develop and support Interprofessional Education in the Department and College.
    • Collaborates with the Dean and College Marketing Director to develop a marketing strategy for the College and Department.
    • Facilitates communication and coordination of activities between staff and faculty.
    • Serve as the College representative on the Deans and Directors of Colorado Nursing Education (DDCNE) organization.
    • Serves as the liaison with the Colorado Board of Nursing.
    • Collaborates with program option leaders to direct program development, implementation, evaluation, and improvement to ensure program outcomes are achieved and sustained.
    • Oversees and manages accreditation requirements for all Nursing academic programs by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
    • Has the authority to sign documents when approved and directed by UCCS legal counsel.
    • Ensures compliance with all grants, regulatory, accreditation, and licensing/certification requirements, including submission of annual and other reports.
    • Engages with community partners and chairs the JBE Nursing Community Advisory Council.
    • Identifies and guides faculty development needs.
    • Provides operational oversight, including personnel, of the Nurse Family Partnership grant.
    • Engages in various service activities within the Department, College, University, the profession of nursing, and the community.
    • Participates in meetings and other activities that advance the mission and goals of the Department, College, and University.
    Teaching (15%)


    • Teach undergraduate and graduate students in classroom, online, hybrid, and clinical settings.
    • Maintain clinical and academic expertise.
    • Plan learning experiences and guide students in achieving desired academic outcomes.
    • Plan, develop, and implement evaluation tools to assess student progress.
    • Participate in curriculum development.
    Research, Scholarship, and Creative Work (20%)


    • Develop and maintain a focused area of research/scholarship/creative work that advances regional, national, and international knowledge.
    • Submit and secure internal/external funding to support focused area of research/scholarship as necessary.
    • Mentor students in the various stages of the research/scholarship process.

    This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

    What We Offer:

    Salary Range:

    Generally starting at:

    • Assistant Professor: $80,000 - $89,000 per academic year, PLUS chair appointment at $15,000 - $20,000 annually
    • Associate Professor: $89,500 - $97,500 per academic year, PLUS chair appointment at $15,000 - $20,000 annually
    • Full Professor: $101,000 - $108,500 per academic year, PLUS chair appointment at $15,000 - $20,000 annually


    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    Tentative Search Timeline:

    • Priority will be given to applications submitted by January 1, 2024. However, this posting will remain open until filled.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.


    • Terminal degree (PhD, EdD) in Nursing or related field from an accredited institution.
    • Active unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in Colorado, or ability to obtain by date of hire.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Previous experience with:

    • Nursing Accreditation processes.
    • Curriculum development, program, planning, program evaluation.
    • Improving and enhancing undergraduate/graduate program quality.
    • Administration at the department or professional level.
    • Budget management.
    • Strategic enrollment and retention activities, as well as assessment strategies.
    • Use of shared governance in decision making process.


    Record of teaching, scholarly, creative work, and leadership and service sufficient to merit appointment as a tenured associate or full professor.


    Physical Requirements:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to move. Tasks may involve using a computer screen continuously for long periods of time, hearing within normal range. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
