    Job Title

    A Financial Counselor/MA Specialist is responsible for interviewing in-house patients referred for Medical Assistance applications.

    The ideal candidate will have two years' experience in a financial, business office, or customer service environment, with one year of hospital business office experience preferred.

    This role requires strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as knowledge of ICD-9 coding and medical terminology.

    The selected candidate will be able to work effectively with all payor and hospital personnel, providing excellent customer service skills and being well organized, self-motivated, and positive.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Interview in-house patients referred for Medical Assistance applications
    • Obtain necessary paperwork from patients and other hospital departments
    • Work with County Assistance office and referral agencies to obtain Medical Assistance approvals
    • Process and perform system maintenance pertaining to PA 162 forms
    • Work with Case Management to insure MA 87s are processed according to MA regulations

    Work Environment

    This position requires working with minimal supervision and maintaining a high level of productivity while meeting quality assurance standards set by Patient Financial Services department.

    Education and Experience

    • High School diploma or equivalent
    • Two years' experience in a financial, business office, or customer service environment required
    • One year hospital business office experience required
    • Demonstrated computer skills (including Microsoft Word and Excel)
    • Working Knowledge of ICD9 coding and medical terminology
    • Able to work with minimal supervision
    • Well organized, self motivated individual with a positive attitude
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Ability to work effectively with all payor and hospital personnel
