    Job Description:

    GatorWell Health Promotion Services seeks a Health Promotion Specialist to develop, implement and evaluate theory-based and evidence-informed health promotion strategies focusing on harm reduction efforts. GatorWell's mission is to empower UF students to build their own path toward lifelong wellbeing through prevention, advocacy, and sustainable behavior change.     Reporting to the Director, this individual will provide individual student services such as Brief Alcohol Screening Intervention for College Students (BASICS), Cannabis Screening Intervention for College Students (CASICS), Alcohol Skills Training Program (ASTP), and Wellness Coaching for Academic Success; support student success through programming and outreach; target materials and outreach to specific student populations; oversee and evaluate the peer education program and supervise student staff; and advocate for holistic student wellbeing by supporting strategic planning efforts.

    Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and evaluate a comprehensive harm reduction approach through needs assessments, intervention development, implementation and evaluation of theory-based and evidence-informed health promotion strategies, targeted programs, outreach, and policies.

    Provide individual student services as aligned with the department, including but not limited to Brief Alcohol Screening Intervention for College Students (BASICS), Cannabis Screening Intervention for College Students (CASICS), Alcohol Skills Training Program (ASTP), and Wellness Coaching for Academic Success. Explore, create, and develop additional harm reduction services.

    Develop and evaluate a clear vision for the peer education program including oversight of health hut outreach. Hire, supervise and manage undergraduate and graduate student staff and interns.

    Support data tracking and report development related to health promotion strategies, programs, and services; and support department grant funding and reporting.

    Contribute to the division and university through active participation on committees and division-wide initiatives (example opportunities: emergency dean on call, event support team, conduct committee, student welcome events, etc). Driving a personal vehicle to transport materials to various campus locations is required.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Master's degree in an appropriate area; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in public health, health promotion, health policy or health education; degrees in other health related fields may be considered.
  • Experience in a higher education environment.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Certified in Public Health (CPH).
  • Certified Wellness Coach (or eligible and intent to become certified).
  • Experience conducting needs assessments and using results to guide programmatic decisions.
  • Experience with design and implementation of health promotion programs.
  • Knowledge of the American College Health Association's Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education (ACHA SPHPHE) and Healthy Campus Framework.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health promotion, behavior change, population-based theories and models, and evidence-based health promotion programs/initiatives.
  • Demonstrated skills in developing and targeting health promotion initiatives and educational materials for a diverse group of college students.
  • Demonstrated skills in a variety of educational methods (e.g., presentations, workshops, trainings, individual behavior change sessions and small group discussion/facilitation).
  • Proficiency in data collection and assessment tools such as Qualtrics.
  • Ability to analyze problems, conduct research, and implement solutions.
  • Supervisory and organizational skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, on campus and in the community.
  • Physical ability to perform required tasks; ability to lift and/or move objects weighing pounds or more, ability to carry boxes and materials weighing up to pounds.
  • Willingness to be an active member of at least one relevant professional organization.
  • Maturity to satisfactorily discharge assigned responsibilities.
