    Job Title: Environmental Scientist (Market Research Focus)

    SUMMARY:

    The Environmental Scientist is responsible for providing support to municipal, industrial, and commercial wastewater clients with a focus on beneficial use market research analysis within the agriculture and horticulture industries, with a secondary focus in residuals management and regulatory permitting. We are seeking a highly self-motivated, responsible, and team-oriented individual, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. The Environmental Scientist role involves frequent independent outreach to industry stakeholders and gatekeepers to conduct in-depth phone interviews. The ideal candidate is an excellent verbal communicator with a passion for problem solving, possessing ingenuity and initiative required to troubleshoot problems, coordinate problem resolution, and meet assignment deadlines within a team environment. The individual must also demonstrate excellent organizational and writing skills. Technical writing is a major component of the role.

    REPORTS TO: Sr. Environmental Scientist / Project Manager

    PRINCIPAL TASKS

    Client Support and Technical Reports

    ● Researches and applies principles of environmental science and engineering, adapting and modifying techniques and approaches to identify proven and innovative solutions.

    ● Conducts independent phone interviews and team site visits for biosolids market assessments with a wide variety of markets including agriculture, soil blenders, fertilizer blenders, landscapers, horticulture/nurseries, and similar industries.

    ● Conducts high strength waste market assessments by conducting phone interviews with producers, haulers and/or aggregators of high strength waste beneficial for co-digestion and biogas production.

    ● Identifies and interacts with key stakeholders and gatekeepers of a variety of market sectors, including but not limited to agriculture, landscaping, and horticulture.

    ● Identifies key marketing strategies available to the client based on state/region specific market requirements, regulations, and client goals.

    ● Prepares project reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data trends, presenting the information at client meetings or workshops.

    ● Understands laboratory practices and conducts analytical data review related to biosolids and residuals quality.

    Regulatory

    ● Keeps updated on regulatory trends by tracking regulatory programs and standards, participating in national, state, and/or local biosolids advocacy groups and educational opportunities.

    ● Interacts with officials from federal and state regulatory agencies such as the USEPA, state specific environmental and agricultural governing bodies, including local municipalities and counties.

    ● Reviews existing local, state, and federal regulations to identify opportunities and challenges associated with management of residual products.

    General

    ● Implements tasks as planned, directed and coordinated by Project Manager(s), managing time to implement multiple tasks efficiently.

    ● Reads professional publications, maintains personal networks, and participates in professional organizations and industry conferences.

    ● General office work including filing, answering phones, and data entry.

    ● Estimated 10% travel required to attend in-person meetings with staff, present gathered information to clients, attend national and/or state biosolids conferences, and conduct fieldwork relating to land application of biosolids and vendor meetings. Occasional overnight travel is required.

    ● Reviews, organizes, and compiles data using MS Excel.

    ● Misc. duties as needed.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

    ● Valid Driver's License

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    ● Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Environmental/Natural Resource Management, or related field.

    ● Experience in customer relations, sales, and/or marketing is a plus, but not required.

    ● Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

    ● Proficiency with conducting independent field investigation, including sample/data collection and management, analysis and interpreting the results is preferred.
