    Job DescriptionAssists the professional staff with the delivery of services to patients in a variety of settings.

    Provides direct patient care, and/or one to one observation to selected patients under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse.

    Assists, escorts and transports patients.
    ResponsibilitiesA.

    Clinical/Technical/ServiceAssists the professional staff with the delivery of services to patients in the ED settingProvides direct patient care, and/or one to one constant or safety observation to selected patients under the supervision of a Registered Professional NurseAssists, escorts and transports patients as neededPerforms and assists with designated procedures, using aseptic technique as indicatedAssists with patients examinations, and performs vital signs as ordered.

    Obtains and provides nourishment for patientsProvides minor treatments as directed - dressings, application of ace bandages, applications of slings and ice, pediculosisAssists with application of casts and splintsPrepares, adjusts and teaches the use of crutches and canes as outlined by the RN/PT.

    Is cognizant of the need for safety devices; applies or assists with applicationCollects specimens, performs venipuncture and fingersticks for blood glucoseObtains EKGs as orderedAssists the healthcare team during medical, trauma, sepsis and stroke codesAssists patients to get needed services by communicating those needs to the nurseCommunicates information to patients, families and visitorsProvides post-mortem careSets-up, stocks, and maintains examining roomsPerforms eye irrigationsMaintains BCLS certification as required by EMS standardsDemonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned areaAge Specific Competencies (Neonate/Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric)

    Completion of a Medical Assistant Certificate program from an approved school OR 2 years of prior experienceHeartsaver Certification required from American Heart AssociationExperience requirements:
