    Job Description:

    The Assistant Dean serves as the second-ranked leader of the college, providing support in the academic and administrative duties of the Office of the Dean. The Dean's office oversees the work of nine chair people, seven assistant chairs, 15 staff, 230 faculty, and approximately 5600 students.

    The Assistant Dean provides critical strategic leadership and concierge-quality support on a range of operational duties and strategic initiatives. The Assistant Dean will lead the Baker School in its processes for, and maintaining accreditation with, national and international accrediting organizations. Reporting to the Dean of the Baker School, the Assistant Dean will work both independently and collaboratively to ensure efficient and effective performance within the Baker School related to strategic planning and implementation, curricular and programmatic assessment and management, and support and development of scholarship and academic excellence.

    Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

    Accreditation/Assessment
  • Provide leadership and oversight of all accreditation activities for the Baker School.
  • Deploy, maintain, and refine - in collaboration with Department Chairs and faculty - the Baker School's assessment plan for both programmatic and curricular assessment, ensuring alignment with the Baker School strategic plan, the FIT Strategic Plan, and compliance with accreditation standards and college requirements.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders - administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni, industry, and other college personnel - to capture data required for writing Quality Assurance and Reaffirmation of Accreditation reports.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of Baker School reports as required by accreditors, agencies, SUNY, and FIT officials.
  • Synthesize and disseminate accreditation and assessment materials to leadership, stakeholders, and constituents to ensure continuous and transparent exchange of information.
  • Manage the setup, launch, and analysis of the Exit Survey and Assessment setup, launch, and report distribution each semester; support - in collaboration with Department Chairs, faculty, and the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness - analysis of results and related action items based on performance.
    Scholarship & Academic Excellence
  • Support Department Chairs and faculty in the planning and approval process for course-level curriculum changes as well as new program development.
  • Support the Dean in refining the operational processes, development of recommendations, and submission of reports to the Office of Academic Affairs for full-time faculty Tenure and Promotion and part-time faculty Certificates of Continuous Employment cases.
  • Provide research and writing support - in collaboration with the Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs - to full-time faculty for seeking, applying to, and administering grants.
  • Provide resources and support to students on a broad range of issues; addressing concerns and questions brought forward by students, faculty, and other stakeholders. Maintain timely, detailed, and accurate records for cases and other information about students.
  • Support a Visiting Scholars program - in collaboration with Department Chairs and faculty - to host academic experts from peer and aspirational academic institutions for collaborative research projects with B&T faculty and students.
  • Support logistics and management of internal and external competitions, contests, and scholarships that are managed by the Baker School's Dean's Office and all Baker School academic departments.
  • Manage the development and approval of gift and donor documentation, in coordination with appropriate personnel.
  • Work with Dean and other personnel in Academic Affairs to establish interdisciplinary and interprofessional linkages across the Baker School and FIT, and externally to FIT to further the Baker School mission, strategic and accreditation plans.
  • Serve as lead Academic Advisor and mentor for the Baker Scholars program in collaboration with Faculty Advisors.

    Requirements:

    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in education, educational research, leadership studies, or a related academic discipline.
  • Prior academic administrative experience (a minimum of five years), including three years of work experience in assessment, accreditation, or related activities.
  • Knowledge of major trends in higher education, especially as related to faculty success, teaching innovation, and learning outcomes assessment.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting on data with statistical programs (such as SPSS, SAS, statistical analysis tools within Excel, etc.).
  • Experience with planning and implementing complex projects involving multiple constituents, workflow analysis, and process improvement.
  • Teaching and/or administrative experience in higher education.
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in education, educational research, or a related academic discipline.
  • Experience with the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), and/or similar accrediting agencies.
  • Experience administering the award of scholarships, grants, and similar.
  • A record of publishing research and/or successful grant writing.
  • Experience in an academic research environment.
    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Ability to analyze diverse sources of data to utilize resources effectively, improve quality, and drive decision-making to support process improvements.
  • Strong skill sets in software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT), Google Suite (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc.), and survey software and database systems.
  • Interest and aptitude to learn proprietary and legacy digital systems (e.g., Course Leaf, Brightspace, Brio/Banner, Bitech, etc.)
  • Ability to use technology to create administrative efficiencies and an interest in staying technically current and mastering new software or college online systems.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community through skillful interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, and organizational management.
  • Professional demeanor with a positive disposition and problem-solving capabilities.

    Salary

    Starting Salary: $130,000 - $135,000 per year; commensurate with experience and qualifications.

    Work Schedule

    Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
