Position Objective

The custodial staff at Clover Park Technical College is essential to our college and their work is greatly appreciated The custodian position is responsible for performing a variety of tasks and assignments to maintain the health, appearance, and cleanliness standards of the college.

This job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by the Custodian 2 position.

Custodian 2 is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 302.

This position is overtime eligible.

Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)

Duty: Cleaning
Tasks include:

Maintain cleanliness of floors, walls, ceilings, carpets, windows, furniture, fixtures, etc. using power equipment and hand tools, including, but not limited to, brooms, mops squeegees, vacuums and scrubbers.
Fulfill cleaning requirements and expectations in all areas of responsibility, using proper cleaning techniques and appropriate chemicals, cleaning agents and tools/equipment.
Participate in team cleaning as assigned.
Adhere to work schedule and meal/ break periods at all times.

Duty: Waste management
Tasks include:

Empty wastebaskets, garbage, and trash containers.
Properly operate the trash compactor safely and efficiently. Report all trash compactor operational issues to the Lead Custodian or designee.
Move recycling totes out of the assigned building for recycling contractor pickup as scheduled.
Return totes to the appropriate location the following day.

Duty: Maintain building security and exterior areas
Tasks include:

Check for unlocked doors and unauthorized occupants. Close and secure facilities for those areas not occupied by staff. Turn off lights and set security alarms. Report any unauthorized occupants to Security and the Lead Custodian.
Maintain building external appearance. Keep the building entrance and sidewalks clean and empty, as well as trash containers, windows, and walls.

Duty: Perform minor maintenance
Tasks include:

Repair or replace items such as, but not limited to, light bulbs or tubes.
Perform operator maintenance on all equipment assigned, such as vacuums, floor machines, and carpet extractors, by taking proper care of equipment cords, changing vacuum bag belts, cleaning brushes, unblocking hoses of debris, and keeping equipment clean and in order.
Empty holding tanks and clean battery-operated carpet extractors and auto scrubbers after every use. Safely check the water levels in all batteries and top off with appropriate fluids.
Report all equipment malfunctions to the Lead Custodian immediately.

Duty: Professional development and perform other duties as assigned
Tasks include:

Attend all training events, college events, and meetings as directed by the Custodial Lead or Administration.
Complete all online and other training required by Clover Park Technical College.
Submit time and leave reports (TLR) promptly.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency.
Must speak, read and write English fluently

Preferred Qualifications

More than one year of experience as a custodian or general building maintenance.
Experience in carpet care and extraction, stripping and waxing floors.
