    Job Summary

    We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced School Counselor to join our Education Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a productive learning environment, conducting individual and group education-related counseling, and attending training and conferences to enhance their skills.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Exercises full compliance with Agency policies and procedures, Federal and State laws and regulations: Maintains a high level of professionalism and adherence to all relevant guidelines.
    • Maintains a productive learning environment within the building: Creates a positive and inclusive atmosphere that fosters academic success.
    • Participates in Universal PBIS Process: Develops and implements strategies to establish a positive school culture and address behavioral challenges.
    • Conducts individual and group education-related counseling: Provides guidance and support to residential and day treatment students to help them achieve their academic goals.
    • Attends training and conferences: Enhances skills and knowledge to better serve students and staff.
    • Transition planning with community school district partners: Ensures seamless transitions for youth between Villa of Hope and other educational settings.
    • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity: Promotes respect and understanding towards students and staff from diverse backgrounds.
    • Researches community resources: Identifies alternative programs and services to support student needs.
    • Assists in planning and conducting in-service workshops: Provides professional development opportunities for staff.
    • Participates in intake process and information gathering: Contributes to the development of individualized education plans.
    • Prepares and maintains academic transcripts: Ensures accurate records of student progress.
    • Communicates with students, families, and education staff: Shares information about academic progress and provides support as needed.
    • Creatively develop educational programs: Designs engaging and effective educational experiences for new students.
    • Works collaboratively with residential social workers and receiving districts: Plans and coordinates school transitions for residential students.
    • Evaluates and records academic programs and status: Monitors student progress and identifies areas for improvement.
    • Evaluates and recommends instructional materials and resources: Stays up-to-date on best practices and evidence-based programs.
    • Provides counseling-related services: Supports students' emotional and academic well-being.
    • Participates in CSE meetings: Collaborates with educators and professionals to develop individualized education plans.
    • Maintains an effective working relationship: Builds strong partnerships with staff, schools, and community agencies.
    • Supports staff in implementing individual and classroom management programs: Provides coaching and guidance to ensure smooth implementation.
    • Fulfills all legal requirements as a Mandated Reporter: Adheres to NYS law and professional ethical standards.

    Requirements

    To be considered for this role, you must have:

    • A Master's degree in School Counseling or a related field.
    • NYS certification in School Counseling preferred.
    • Relevant experience in an educational setting.
    • Strong verbal and writing skills, attention to detail, problem-solving, flexibility, and adaptability.
