    Duties




    As an
    Environmental Protection Specialist, you will:


    • Develop policies, procedures, and guidance documents to implement the Department's responsibilities on environmental matters pursuant to the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and related Legislation and Executive technical and procedural assistance to all CPD staff, both field and Headquarters.
    • Provide guidance on achieving compliance with 17 federal environmental laws for complex, controversial, and unique projects. Apply new developments and theories to major environmental compliance problems not susceptible to remedy by established methods.

    Examples include:
    environmental noise, radon, air pollution, toxic wastes and industrial hazards.

    • Conduct analysis of complex projects and programs, establishing nationwide precedence. Makes decisions or recommendations significantly changing, interpreting, or expanding important HUD programs for environmental compliance. Provide leadership and input into HUD's environmental regulations and policies. The incumbent responds to Departmental and Congressional inquiries and requests for information regarding environmental issues.
    • Work closely with Office of General Counsel and Departmental and Program Environmental Clearance Officers in reviewing and commenting on Administration, Congressional and other Federal Agency proposed legislation for its effect or impact on CPD programs and environmental responsibilities.
