USM serves about 1,400 students at its main campus in Leavenworth, its satellite location in Overland Park, as well as online.
    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Division of Humanities and Liberal Arts seeks a full-time faculty member in the Communications Department with expertise in teaching public and inter-personal communications, journalism, and social media. The successful candidate will have a minimum of three – five years of in-person teaching experience at the college level. In addition, the candidate must have experience teaching students of diverse backgrounds and first-generation college students. Experience teaching photojournalism and multimedia is a plus.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Teach public speaking and inter-personal communications as foundational general education courses.
    Teach media literary, social media, and diversity in the media
    Outstanding written and oral communication skills
    Ability to present material effectively through diverse teaching methods.
    Teach 24-credit hours across 9- months with ability to teach during the day, five days a week.
    REQUIREMENTS:

    M.A. or above in Communications or Journalism.
    3-5 years of teaching public speaking or inter-personal communications at the college level.
    3-5 years of teaching media literacy, social media and/or diversity in the media.
    Work experience that demonstrates proficiency in working with first generation students is preferred.
    Experience in teaching communications (oral and written) within an active learning and interdisciplinary frame is preferred.
    Experience teaching photojournalism and/or multimedia is a plus.
