Job Description:
This position is an unclassified position in the Cain Department of Chemical Engineering.
The Research Specialist 1 supports experimental research through designing, fabricating and repairing specialized equipment such as reactors (catalytic, etching, deposition), separators, analytical and metrology tools.
50% Design, fabricate and repair specialized research equipment such as catalytic reactors, mass spectrometers, etching and deposition tools, vacuum tools and other metrology instruments (GC, mass spectrometers, infrared spectrometers, ultraviolet and visible spectrophotometers, etcetera).
20% Operate computer controlled machines that require programming skills, as well as machining skills including, but not limited to: operating lathe, milling machines, drill press, and miscellaneous hand and power tools; welding, pipe-fitting, and plumbing.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree plus 1 year of related experience
Experience substitute for degree:
4 years of related experience.
