    Inova Schar Cancer Center is seeking a dedicated Pharmacy Research Coordinator- Oncology to join the team.

    The Pharmacy Research Coordinator ensures safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapies are made available for patients according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.

    Assumes staffing responsibilities in the role of a Pharmacist to ensure smooth department operations. Provides education and information on pharmaceutical care and drug therapies to patients and healthcare team members.

    Supports quality initiatives through data management and analysis and effective operation of the department through policy development and liaising with members of the medical community.

    Maintains responsibility for clinical investigational drug trials while performing administrative responsibilities pertaining to clinical practice and research.
    This is a full-time Monday – Friday day shift position.
    Facilitates the development and implementation of treatment guidelines, protocols, formulary changes and critical pathways.

    • Facilitates the identification, resolution, implementation, and communication of costeffective medication use issues in collaboration with the medical staff.
    • Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners and patients and suggests appropriate and costeffective therapeutic alternatives to medical staff as needed.
    • Monitors drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drugdrug interactions, drugfood interactions, adverse drug reactions and appropriateness of drug/dose.
    • Provides education and information to patients on pharmaceutical care and drug therapy.
    • Provides training and education to Pharmacists regarding pharmaceutical care and Pharmacoeconomics and supervises and instructs Pharmacists and Pharmacy students.
    • Prepares and presents drug reviews, MUE criteria, antibiotic sensitivity reports, adverse drug reaction reports and pharmacy intervention summaries to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
    • Participates in community educational programs and contributes to the advancement of the profession through presentations at local, state, and national meetings.
    • Reviews the performance and documentation of clinical activities of all Pharmacists including documentation of clinical and investigational drug activities.
    • Monitors Pharmacy activities daily to ensure adherence to study protocols and dispensing procedures.
    • Liaises with Principal Investigators, Trial Coordinators and/or Research Assistants to establish Pharmacy's role, determine fee schedules and to implement dispensing, compounding, and billing procedures.
    • Maintains inventory and coordinates distribution of an uptodate clinical investigational drug trials list.
    • Communicates any concerns regarding ethical issues or deviation from established policies and procedures to the appropriate committee.
    Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy.
