Description
The Physician Assistant (PA) provides care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling, provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being.
The Arrhythmia PA assesses, plans, implements, collaborates, and evaluates the needs and care of cardiac patients with acute and chronic arrhythmias.
The PA will be fully qualified and certified to function in both a clinical and administrative role and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
This individual is delegated the authority and responsibility in his/her area of expertise to assume major clinical, consultative, educational, research, and administrative duties and assignments related to the care of patients with cardiovascular disease.
The Physician Assistant exhibits an expert level of practice and breadth of knowledge, synthesis of data and complexity of skills and interventions related to the life limiting cardiac disease conditions.
ClinicalPrimary focus of practice is the clinical management of health care for patients in the EP and Device Clinic. Functions as an expert in clinical practice and/or areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities.
Provides leadership in the application of patient care, organizational processes and/or systems, improving outcomes at the program or service level.
Initiates referrals to Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Device, and Heart Failure clinic when warranted. Collaborates with other health care resources to ensure continuity of care.Evaluates patients with dysrhythmias that potentially warrant cardioversions and then arranges outpatient direct current cardioversions, when clinically indicated.
Evaluates patients for cardiology preoperative assessments, expedites the evaluation when indicated, and makes cardiology preoperative recommendations.
Assists a team of Cardiology Fellows in informing patients of tests done in the Cardiology clinic in a timely manner and in arranging appropriate cardiovascular testing and follow up.
Provides leadership in identifying and addressing ethical issues that impact patients and staff, including initiating and participating in ethics consultation.
Manages program resources (financial, human, material, or informational) to facilitate safe, effective, and efficient care.Uses professional standards of care and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities.
Administrative
Assists the Chief of Cardiology in the care and management of patients with cardiovascular disease receiving care at the AAVA.
Directs Cardiology program support and Cardiology clinic nursing staff regarding patient flow in the Cardiology Consult clinic and oversees patient care delivery in the Cardiology Consult clinic.
Screens and triages Atrial Fibrillation/Atrial Flutter Cardioversion and Cardiology Preoperative Evaluation consults.Serves on the interview board when Cardiology Section is attempting to hire new staff for open positions.
Initiates, coordinates, and participates in interdisciplinary meetings as needed to address issues of quality of care, documentation and delivery of services; attends meetings on-site or off-site when appropriate and relevant to the facilitation and delivery of Cardiology services.
Education/ResearchServes as the Cardiology Section's Physician Assistant education point of contact for institutions that have Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner students participate in a Cardiology rotation at the AAVA.
Precepts Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner students on their elective Cardiology rotation.Orients EP and Device Clinic Medicine Fellows, Residents, and Students on their Cardiology Consult rotation.
Pay:
