    Description

    Overview

    To perform echocardiographic procedures as requested by the physician, accurately keep charges and to supply to the appropriate physician for reading. To maintain accurate and appropriate files and assist with exams as needed.

    Responsibilities

  • Organizes and directs the flow of patients through the ECHO Lab to ensure quality of care.
  • Performs echocardiograms on all age groups in a timely manner and assist physician in reading.
  • Assists in performance improvement (PI) activities by serving on PI teams as warranted, assisting with PI measures and supporting and implementing changes necessary for improvement.
  • Maintains records and files related to echocardiograms.
  • Performs EKGs and GXTs as needed.
  • Maintains clean and workable equipment and work area.
  • Demonstrates cost-conscious behaviors by utilizing equipment and supplies efficiently.
  • Responds to "STAT" calls as defined in departmental policies.
  • Performs basic cardiac life support as needed.
  • Knows appropriate personnel to alert in emergency situations.
  • Flexible for helping to cover all shifts as needed.
  • Displays a sense of responsibility and is observant of the patient in his/her care during the procedure.
  • Assist in maintaining departmental statistical data.
  • Aware of safety precautions as they relate to the age of the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient.
  • Attends in service programs, required training/education, and unit/department/service meetings.
  • Assist with the upkeep of supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with transportation of patients as needed.
  • Performs all assignments in a timely manner, establishes priorities of care and related assigned duties; effectively organizes work day.
  • Needs to be functioning independently within 6 months of training.

  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

  • Is a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Evidence of preparation for certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer as dictated by the present needs of the department.
  • Bachelor of Science degree and/or Ultrasound experience preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.
