    Job Description and Duties


    The Occupational Therapist will be directed by the Chief Physician and Surgeon in Central Medical Services at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH).

    The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:


    • Participate in clinical meetings as requested/assigned.
    • Be available to the hospital management and medical staff for Occupational Therapy consultation/recommendations regarding the patient's assessment, treatment needs and resources, as well as staff development needs for both specific patient needs and general programmatic needs.
    • Assist in developing policies and procedures aligning with DSH principles.
    • Make recommendations for additional assessment tools as clinically indicated.
    • Conduct and prepare written Occupational Therapy assessments/evaluations.
    • Develop Occupational Therapy treatment plans based on clinical findings.
    • Participate in Treatment Planning meetings as appropriate to review each patient's progress towards treatment goals as well as informal communication with patient's treatment team as needed for provision of OT services.
    • Provide written documentation of patient's progress with OT treatment.
    • Provide timely progress notations within the patient's treatment plan document.
    • Organize, plan and conduct Occupational Therapy treatment individually or in group settings as clinically indicated.
    • Assist in the maintenance of a safe and secure hospital environment.
    • Coordinate with appropriate departments to ensure the patients who require adaptive equipment is provided with equipment that meet the assessed needs.
    • Promotes independence and provides training and support for the equipment use.
    • Provide training as needed to unit staff regarding the equipment usage and maintenance as well as any safety concerns.
    • Complete quarterly equipment reviews to maintain safety and update necessary equipment.

    • BE LIST ELIGIBLE: Successfully complete the competitive State civil service exam pertaining to this classification at Occupational Therapist Exam Bulletin, OR
    • BE TRANSFER ELIGIBLE: Have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable (employees who wish to be considered based on transfer eligibility must meet the minimum qualifications of the classification per DPA Rule 250), OR
    • BE REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBLE: Have obtained previous permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable.
    • Minimum qualifications will be verified prior to being scheduled for an interview. Please provide proof of minimum qualifications with your application submission, which may include a copy of your unofficial college transcripts.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Registration with the National Registry of the American Occupational Therapy Association or eligibility for such registration. (Applicants who have completed the academic training required for registration will be admitted to the civil service examination, but they must also have completed the required clinical training before they will be considered eligible for appointment.)
