    Heart Care Unit


    Shift/Schedule:
    Full Time (36 hrs/wk), Varied Shift


    GENERAL SUMMARY
    Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager.

    The RN's primary job function is to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, delegate and coordinate individual patient care on a nursing unit according to unit policies and procedures.

    May be required to work on other nursing units according to distribution of staff and patients. Supports each Strategic Value by following the SOMC Standards of Behavior and AIDET practices. Performs other duties as assigned.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required

    Licensure:

    • Licensed to practice as an RN in Ohio required
    • BLS within 90 days of hire required
    • ACLS within 1 year of hire required

    Experience:

    • Previous experience with patients requiring cardiac monitoring and open heart surgery recovery preferred.

    JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
    The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.


    • Completes nursing assessment of patients and documents appropriately on patient record.
    • Develops a plan based upon the assessment of patient.
    • Communications and collaborates with physicians and other health team members in developing a plan of care.
    • Initiates, manages, and participates in discharge planning process.
    • Implements, delegates and coordinates patient care.
    • Evaluates patient's response to plan of care and updates plan of care.
    • Facilitates patient/family teaching as appropriate.
    • Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy
    • Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU's
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
