The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Animal Care Specialist (Kennels) to support the Animal Care Division.
+Responsibilities
- Receive dogs and cats brought to the shelter.Weighs, examines, and observes animals to detect signs of illness,disease,or injury.Places animals in kennelsand maintains impounding records using the computer system.Cleansand sanitizes assigned kennel areas;organizesand disinfects equipment;laundry.Prepare foodand feed animals accordingto schedulesand feeding instructions.Provide drinking waterfor animalsin the animalshelter.Reports any medical issues to clinic staff and may assistwith the applicationor administrationof monthly preventative parasiticides,routine vaccinations,and/or oral medications.Performs daily census roundsand updates animal records as needed.Ensures disease management best practices are followedto prevent cross-contamination.Respondsto questionsand inquiriesfrom citizens regardingthe careofanimals.Provides assistanceto citizens visitingthe shelterfor adoption,redeemption,and surrenderofdogsandcats.Observationandin interactionwithanimalsat shelterin accordancewith established guidelinesand protocols togather behavioral information anda provide qualitycare.Maintains shelterrecordsanda notesmedical/behavioral problems ofanimalsusingthe computersystem.Notifies supervisorof supplyora equipment needs.Performs relatedworkas required.
