    The Tenth Judicial District, which includes eight counties in the Northern Suburbs of the Twin Cities Metro Area, is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Court Operations Supervisor to join the Sherburne County Court Administration team in the Civil/Family/Probate/CHIPS in Elk River, MN.


    The Court Operations Supervisor is responsible for assigning, directing, supervising, and coordinating the work of the civil, family, probate, and CHIPs division to ensure that cases are processed in a timely and accurate manner.

    As a Court Operations Supervisor, you will directly supervise a moderate number of staff in a Court Administrator's office in a medium county.

    This position requires excellent communication, the ability to analyze legal documents for content and interpret/apply statutes and court rules.

    This position also requires the ability to make sound, independent judgment and decisions, and deal with diverse populations including staff, judges, stakeholders, and attorneys.


    This position is classified as a Court Operations Supervisor and located in the Sherburne County Government Center at 13880 Business Center Dr.

    NW Elk River, MN 55330, with the possibility of a hybrid work environment. Core business hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm.


    Initial days off:
    Saturday, Sunday, and Court Designated Holidays.

    Example of Duties

    The following are examples of major job duties expected of this position:


    • Processes and directly supervises the processing of civil, family, probate, and CHIPs cases filed in the assigned court, division or unit and matters relating to maintenance of financial control over receipts and disbursements and special accounts. Assigns, directs, supervises, and coordinates the work of all subordinate staff of the unit making provisions for hiring and training of such staff.
    • Directs the workflow of the division to ensure that work is fairly distributed, that priority work is handled promptly and that deadlines are met; as well as delegating projects and assignments to staff as appropriate.
    • Develops, recommends and implements new policies and procedures to comply with current statutes and regulations as they pertain to the division; and simplify work processes so that the division operates more efficiently.
    • Performs a wide variety of complex court clerical and supervisory clerical assignments; reviews and processes legal documents, assures completeness and accuracy of court records; schedules cases, may be responsible for a specialized case processing activity such as preparing appeals; answers procedural questions for staff; works with supervisor and subordinate staff to develop and implement new procedures and responds to changes in the law.
    • Interprets statutes, rules and orders and provides recommendations on procedural questions to attorneys, subordinates and the general public.
    • Provides orientation to staff members regarding new rules and legislation pertinent to the division and updates appropriate manuals for current use.
    • Selects, coaches, mentors, develops, and evaluates the performance of staff according to established standards.
    • Work in conjunction with co-supervisors and the Court Administrator to create and foster an inclusive team environment for all staff members.
    • Ability to lead, manage, organize, and meet deadlines of projects as assigned by manager
    • Communicate effectively with parties, court staff, judges and judge teams, justice partners, attorneys, and other stakeholders.
    • Maintains employee personnel records and time sheets; actively involved in all aspects of performance management including hiring, on-boarding and discipline for the division.
    Typical Qualifications

    Education and Experience


    • Graduation from high school, or equivalent
    • 3-5 years experience as a Court Operations Associate, Leadworker II or similar position
    • Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Thorough knowledge of court procedures and policies, legal documents, laws and legal factors pertaining to the civil, family, probate, and CHIPs case types.
    • Thorough knowledge of the organization, operation, function, and scope of the authority of the court or activity to which assigned.
    • Considerable knowledge of effective supervisory and management techniques.
    • Considerable knowledge of the automated court information system.
    • Ability to make work decisions in accordance with law, regulations, and departmental policies and procedures.
    • Ability to maintain a variety of records and prepare reports.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others within and outside of the Judicial Branch.
    • Ability to work in a fast paced, high-volume environment, and to show flexibility as necessary and cover for other areas as needed.
    • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters including performance issues in a diplomatic and professional manner,
    • Ability to adapt to a constant changing environment along with the ability to lead and motivate staff through these changes.
    • Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinate employees engaged in a variety of court activities.
    • Ability to express ideas concisely and clearly, both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, information technology, court administration, public or business administration, behavioral science or a closely related area, and considerable experience in a trial court and/or training environment, or equivalent combination of directly related experience and education.
    Working Conditions

    Work is performed primarily in an office-setting, a public counter and/or in a courtroom.
