    Description

    The role of Maintenance 1 involves heavy labor predominantly outdoors, encompassing construction and maintenance of drainage systems, ditches, and stormwater facilities to ensure compliance with the Clean Water Act and FDEP NPDES permit requirements. Tasks include cleaning ditches and stormwater structures, inspecting pipes, structures, and ditches, maintaining tools, and potentially working in confined spaces or above water. Team members are part of a standby rotation that may involve overnight and weekend call-outs, with flexibility to shift between different crews based on operational needs. The position is based in Clearwater, FL, with a work schedule of Tuesday-Friday 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM.

    Role Highlights:

    • Perform various tasks such as ditch cleaning, stormwater repair, inspecting pipes and structures, and more.
    • Operate equipment, handle traffic control, and maintain tools and traffic operations.
    • Physically capable of climbing, standing for extended periods, and responding to emergencies.
    • Communicate effectively, demonstrate proficiency in assigned tasks, and adhere to departmental policies.

    Requirements:

    • Completion of ninth grade or equivalent work experience.
    • Valid Florida Driver's License, with the need to obtain a Florida CDL B within a year of employment.
    • Certification in various safety and operation training programs.
    • Physical agility to work in adverse weather conditions and be available for emergencies.

    Highly Desirable:

    • Professional Engineer Certification in Florida.
    • Management experience in public works, stormwater infrastructure, and budgeting.
    • Supervisory experience and knowledge of asset management principles.
    • Certifications in leadership development and accountability.
    • Experience in reactive environments with a focus on performance.
    • Skills and Knowledge:

      • Proficiency in maintenance work tools, stormwater maintenance, and basic computer skills.
      • Ability to operate heavy equipment, manage projects, and ensure public safety.
