    At GBH, we believe in the advantages of coming together to build community, mentor and learn from colleagues, and connect more deeply with our mission. As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and one other day, to be determined by their business unit. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.

    GBH News is transforming into one cohesive, audience-focused, multiplatform news organization that tells the most interesting and distinctive local stories of the day. Our journalism is infusedand informed by the diverse communities we serve. We are among the fastest-growing local news providers in Greater Boston and draw on the talent of a multiplatform newsroom that includes radio (89.7 FM); television (Ch. 2); and digital reporting. Our goalthrough in-depth, high-quality journalismis to inform, educate, and enlighten our audience and build a collaborative newsroom culture.

    JOB OVERVIEW

    The American Dream is unreachable and far out of focus for too many in one of the wealthiest nations in the world and in one of this country's wealthiest states. As its population diversifies, equity gaps in Massachusetts are also growing, especially along fault lines of race and class.

    GBH News is deepening its capacity to report on systemic barriers disproportionately blocking marginalized communities from thriving in the Commonwealth by creating a new Equity & Justice reporting unit steeped in community engagement, data, and a focus on both problems and solutions. This unit will operate alongside and in collaboration with other tentpole areas of focus in our newsroompolitics and civic engagement, education, investigations and impact, and long-form feature storytelling.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    We are seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative digital producer to become a valuable member of our dynamic cross-platform team. Your primary responsibilities will include:

    • Proficiently generate a continuous stream of unique digital-first narratives and discussions, encompassing both rapid turnaround and extended-form content.
    • Demonstrate expertise in seamlessly navigating various digital platforms and excel in crafting engaging web stories. Utilize cutting-edge tools and visual techniques to enhance content quality. An additional advantage if you possess skills in shooting and editing digital video.
    • Display a strong commitment to data-driven content, assessing impact, and effectively engaging and broadening our audience base. Proficiency in handling data sets and presenting data visually in an accessible and inclusive manner is highly desirable.
    • Utilize the full spectrum of GBH News platforms, including , YouTube, radio, newsletters, and television, to ensure our stories resonate and connect with our audience effectively.
    • Thrive to establish new and diverse sources by actively participating in the community, attentively listening, and cultivating genuine relationships. Proven success in engaging communities of color and marginalized groups is a valuable asset.
    • Demonstrate an ability to report on solutions and innovative strategies for addressing systemic issues that disproportionately affect certain segments of the population.
    • Skillfully manage the immediate demands of daily news while also contributing to the development of long-term projects and assignments.

    • Demonstrates solid news judgment and the ability to effectively prioritize tasks when faced with competing developments.
    • Exhibits a strong commitment to journalistic ethics and integrity.
    • Possesses excellent writing abilities and a tenacious approach to investigative reporting.
    • Proficient in breaking news reporting and delivering exclusive scoops.
    • Can perform well under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of work.
    • Demonstrates strong interviewing skills, ensuring thorough and insightful coverage.
    • Exhibits strong research capabilities to support comprehensive reporting.
    • Works effectively as part of a team, fostering a collaborative environment.
    • Experienced in both quick-turn and longer-form/feature reporting, contributing to special multi-part series.
    • Has experience with reporting using digital video, staying updated with current trends.
    • Shows an interest in engaging the audience and creatively addressing issues from a grassroots perspective.
    • Enthusiastic about working in a cooperative and evolving multiplatform newsroom.
    • Proficiency in speaking more than one language is a valuable asset.
    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
    • 2-3 years of experience as a reporter
    • Experience covering issues of race, class or equity
    • Familiarity with data-driven or investigative journalism
    • A solid track record of enterprise, exclusive and breaking news reporting
    • At least 2 years of experience reporting on or producing for two or more platforms - radio, web, social video, podcast etc.
    • Show hosting experience a plus
    • Experience with digital video
