The QA Team Lead is responsible for leading and overseeing the quality assurance efforts within Mercans' software development process, ensuring the reliability and performance of its global payroll outsourcing and SaaS solutions.
This role involves managing the QA team, defining and implementing testing strategies, ensuring software quality standards, and optimizing testing processes.
The QA Team Lead will collaborate closely with developers, product owners, and other stakeholders to maintain high testing coverage and drive continuous improvement in QA practices, ensuring seamless payroll and HR software experiences for multinational enterprises.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership and Management
Lead, mentor, and support the QA team to ensure efficient and effective testing processes tailored for global payroll and SaaS applications.
Allocate tasks and resources within the team to align with development cycles and project priorities, ensuring compliance with international payroll regulations and business-critical HR operations.
Conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback, and support team members' professional growth in a fast-paced SaaS and payroll environment.Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability within the QA team.

Define and implement testing methodologies, frameworks, and best practices that address industry-specific challenges, such as multi-currency transactions, tax compliance, and cross-border payroll complexities.
Ensure systematic regression testing for release candidates to maintain software stability, accuracy, and compliance with payroll legislation.Review and validate test cases, test reports, and defect documentation to maintain high-quality standards that align with the critical needs of global payroll processing.
Monitor software releases to ensure smooth deployments, tracking any potential issues and overseeing quick resolutions.Establish and enforce quality checkpoints throughout the software development lifecycle to detect defects at early stages.

Evaluate and integrate AI/ML-driven testing tools to enhance test case generation, test execution, and defect prediction.

Act as the main point of contact for QA-related discussions, providing insights into quality risks, compliance requirements, and mitigation strategies tailored for payroll and HR solutions.
Facilitate knowledge sharing and documentation to improve testing standards and processes, ensuring compliance with international payroll regulations.Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives to align testing efforts with business and development priorities.
Work with customer support and implementation teams to understand end-user challenges and integrate real-world feedback into the QA process.
Communicate QA metrics, test results, and quality trends to stakeholders to improve decision-making and risk assessment.
Conduct training sessions for developers on quality engineering best practices to improve overall software quality.
Strategic Planning and Process Improvement
Define and execute QA strategies that align with business and development goals in the payroll outsourcing and SaaS industry.
Establish and track key quality metrics to measure and improve QA effectiveness, particularly in payroll accuracy, compliance checks, and HR system integrations.
Ensure compliance with industry best practices, security standards, and data protection regulations, including GDPR, SOC 2, and ISO 27001 for payroll and HR SaaS platforms.
Assess and implement emerging QA trends, methodologies, and technologies to improve the efficiency and accuracy of software testing.Identify bottlenecks in the software release process and implement solutions to optimize release cycles without compromising quality.
Implement robust reporting mechanisms for software quality and performance trends to provide management with actionable insights.
Conduct post-release quality audits and root cause analyses to continuously improve software quality.
Problem-Solving and Technical Expertise
Analyze complex software systems to identify gaps and areas for improvement in testing coverage, particularly for payroll engines, tax calculation algorithms, and compliance modules.
Troubleshoot and resolve testing challenges by leveraging technical expertise and problem-solving skills specific to global payroll and HRM systems.Stay up to date with the latest QA tools, methodologies, and industry trends to continuously enhance the QA function and ensure software reliability for enterprise payroll solutions.
Lead incident response processes for critical software defects, coordinating rapid resolution efforts and ensuring lessons learned are integrated into future releases.
Work with security teams to identify and address vulnerabilities in payroll systems, implementing security testing as part of the QA strategy.
Education and ExperienceAt least 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance, including manual and automated testing.
Experience leading or managing a QA team in an Agile development environment.
Strong understanding of test automation tools, frameworks, and methodologies.
Hands-on experience with UI and API automation (e.g., Selenium, TestNG, Kotlin, Maven, GitLab).
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have
Experience in automating solutions within HR or Finance domains.
Familiarity with CI/CD processes and DevOps practices.
