Position Focus:
The Yale Peabody Museum is currently undergoing a complete renovation and expansion and expected to reopen to the public in early . The scheduled hours of this position will fluctuate according to the renovation project and planned reopening of the museum in . Under the supervision of the Head of Security for the Peabody Museum, the Security Officer 1 is an essential employee on the museum floor who enforces the museum's policies and procedures with respect to the operation, security, and safety of the museum, its possessions, and occupants. Ensures the safety of visitors, staff, and collections while contributing to create a welcoming environment. Provides high level support for the necessary security monitoring of museum spaces, collections, exhibits. Responds to and documents all security incidents and emergencies.
Essential responsibilities and duties (including, but not limited to): Opening, securing, and closing the Peabody Museum and rooms or areas of affiliation according to operating schedule and department procedures. Responsible for securing the collection and patrolling the gallery spaces. Responsible for operating and responding security alarm panels, access control systems, key management systems, visitor management systems, and other related systems. Check for suspicious occurrences and report all violations promptly. Make notifications to alarm monitoring stations, supervisor, and appropriate parties. Serves as a member of the museum's emergency response team. Responsible for knowing all emergency evacuation routes and procedures and be able to execute instructions under all emergency situations. Remain current on all University, museum and Peabody Museum Security Department policies, rules and procedures, for the operation, security and safety of the museum, its collections, and occupants. Respond to all situations and requests by communicating calmly, respectfully, with great customer service, and maintain a high level of professionalism. Remain in constant communication with officers and supervisor on site to disseminate and receive information. Maintain logs and records of occurrences, complete necessary reports, and utilize appropriate software to input and retrieve data. Complete various training and certification programs on an on-going basis. Be proficient with computers, email, and software functions. Will be required to become proficient on all present and future security related equipment, technology, and software. Will be required to work overtime hours, or outside of scheduled hours for training sessions or due to operational need. Provide security coverage during staff/contractor operating hours, public/Yale community operating hours, and special event, and holiday coverage. Assist with overall safety of events, including setup and breakdown. Perform additional related duties as assigned. May be required to assist in disaster recovery efforts
Essential Duties
1. Enforces procedural rules and regulations. Ensures the personal safety of staff, visitors, and property. Maintains security and safety for assigned area. Maintains working knowledge of the locations of various departments, buildings, access routes and admitting requirements. 2. May operate and monitor security control panels alarms, and related security equipment to provide area and visitor surveillance. Patrols assigned area including garages and other parking areas. Checks for suspicious occurrences, and enforces parking rules and regulations. 3. Responds to and investigates situations reported to Control Rooms. Calls Campus Police or other authorities to investigate suspicious activities or security violations that require intervention. 4. Checks vehicles in University and private parking lots for authorized parking sticker. Issues parking violation warnings, and tags and requests towing when necessary. 5. Checks ID cards of persons entering the facility. Refuses to admit persons who cannot show either proper authorization or cause for being admitted. Provides information and directions. 6. Explains rules and regulations. Opens and closes facility, ensuring that users have left the premises. Reports security and general maintenance problems to the proper authorities. 7. Collects and transports money, and handles small amounts of cash transactions when necessary. May be responsible for Lost-And-Found. Maintains logs and records of occurrences, completes necessary paperwork, and may use computer terminal to input and retrieve data.
Required Education and Experience
High school level education or equivalent and two years of experience in security, law enforcement, military police, or customer service; or an Associate's degree and two years of experience.

Ability to maintain a high level of discretion and confidentiality in a complex, fast-paced environment. Ability to multi-task with exceptional attention to detail.

Flexibility in schedule and day-to-day routine. Ability to multi-task. Ability to excel both independently and as a team member.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
High attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to write clear, concise reports. General computer demonstrated ability with Microsoft Office, email, etc.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
References must indicate reliable attendance, punctuality, diligent performance, the ability to work as a team, accuracy and attention to detail, ability to set and maintain priorities, ability to maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Customer service-related experience. Experience in museum security or security in a cultural property setting. Experience with Security Control Rooms and electronic security systems. CPR First Aid/AED certification. IFCPP Certified Institutional Protection Specialist (CIPS).

State of Connecticut License for Security Officer (Guard Card)
Physical Requirements
Ability to walk up many flights of stairs and do extensive walking, sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Ability to walk to and from several buildings.
