    1 month ago Be among the first 25 applicantsWhat You Will DoAs a Genetic Counselor, you will provide genetic education, counseling, and support to patients and/or families with genetic or suspected genetic disorders for which they have been referred to IHTC.

    In this role, you will identify family members at risk, interpret genetic information and results, and review available options with patients and/or families.

    You may also provide services to patients and/or families with a diagnosis of a bleeding disorder, hemoglobinopathy, vascular or lymphatic disorders, other rare hematologic conditions, or other concerns being addressed by the IHTC medical team.

    The OpportunityReview medical records and interviews patients and/or families to obtain patient and/or family medical histories and records the findings.

    Assess family history to determine genetic risk and provide genetic education regarding inheritance.
    Document family pedigrees entering all information into the IHTC Genetics Registry Database. Update this data when available and assists in identifying individuals at-risk in Indiana.

    Analyze pedigrees to identify family members who are at-risk and discusses with the patients and/or families how information can be communicated.

    Assist in identifying appropriate genetic testing.

    Provide education to the patients and/or families regarding the option of testing ensuring that they understand the possible implications of a genetic test result.

    Interpret genetic results and communicates with healthcare providers and patients and/or families about the significance of the results.

    Participate in comprehensive clinic for patients with bleeding disorders and collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to establish an appropriate plan of care.

    Attend multidisciplinary case conferences when applicable.
    Review available medical literature and identifies current data useful in the care of patients and/or families.
    Support patients and/or families in identifying resources relating to obscure hematological conditions.
    When indicated, review with patients and /or families diagnosis specific recommendations for pregnancy as well as reproductive options.
    Document patient related activities and relevant data in charts and develops plans for follow-up as needed.
    Develop and present educational materials and programs for internal and external use.
    Provide personalized and culturally sensitive genetics services considering patients and/or families beliefs and desires as well as ensures confidentiality.
    Participate in IHTC data collection initiatives as requested.

    Serve as a resource to IHTC staff regarding genetic information and providing optimal genetics services to IHTC patients and/or families.

    Assess patients and families psychological and emotional needs regarding their genetic risk, diagnosis, and test results. Refer to multidisciplinary team members when indicated.
    Participate in IHTC events and initiatives as requested.
    Assist with IHTC research studies and related activities as necessary.
    This position requires occasional travel to outreach clinics throughout the state of Indiana. Travel to perform home visits may infrequently be necessary as well.
