    Job DescriptionInsurance Specialist – Full TimeCape Verdean Creole, Portuguese, Spanish, Haitian Creole $ $20.21 POSITION SUMMARY:Meets with patients to enroll them in insurance programs and follows up on completed applications.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Meets with patients and assist them in enrolling in insurance programs for which they are eligible via the Mahealthconnector. Reviews all applications received for completeness and documentation accuracy.
    2. Screens patients to follow up on documentation requirements for application processing. Assists patients when shopping through the Health Connector and Masshealth for their plan eligibility.
    3. Educates patients about managed care programs that the health center accepts.
    4. Assists patients with enrolling into manage care organization and follow up with enrollment status.
    5. Assists registration and other departments in verifying health insurance coverage for patients.
    6. Assists patients in selecting primary care provider for various insurances including commercial insurances.
    7. Assists Health Safety Net patients with hospital billing issues, updates billing department of patients' insurance changes.
    8. Enters patients' insurance updates in Next Gen system.
    9. Meets with OB patients by their first visit to enroll in an insurance plan. Follows up with OB patients to maintain insurance coverage.
    10. Attends quarterly Masshealth Training Forum related to changes in health care insurance.
    11. Attends department and all staff meetings.
    12. Provides cross coverage for the Department.

    15. Maintain yearly CAC certification.
    16. Other related duties as assigned.
    MINIMAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:High school diploma or equivalent. Associates Degree preferred. Must have knowledge of community and neighborhood served by Health Center. Knowledge of managed care preferred. Must be able to work independently with effective communication skills. Ability to relate to staff and patients in a professional manner. Good organizational and telephone skills. Bilingual required.WORKING CONDITIONS:Works in a busy community health center in downtown business district. Interruptions are present and can be disruptive to work flow. Stress is present due to a high volume of work, diversified nature of activities and frequent crises and deadlines.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Physical demands require lifting of small pieces of office equipment and/or boxes not to exceed 20 lbs. Standing, walking and sitting involved with position.
