The Phlebotomist role:

The Phlebotomist's main task is to collect and process blood specimens for testing in the lab. The job requires maintaining up-to-date skills to perform dermal punctures on individuals of all age groups. Responsibilities include:

• Collecting blood samples using appropriate techniques for each age group.
• Properly handling, labeling, and storing specimens.
• Evaluating specimens for quality before acceptance and following rejection criteria when necessary.
• Having a good understanding of lab specimen requirements, ensuring proper collection, handling, and distribution to the correct lab section with minimal errors.
• Demonstrating proficiency in lab computer systems for tasks such as order entry, specimen registration, labeling, report printing, and more.

Requirements:

• Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Preferred).
• Phlebotomy Training Program completion (Preferred).
• Skills: Critical thinking, judgment, ability to work independently, and handle stressful situations effectively.
• Phlebotomy Technician or Equivalent Certification (Preferred).
• Minimum Work Experience: 6 months of full-time phlebotomy experience or clinical internship with at least 100 venipunctures. Previous hospital phlebotomy experience is a plus.
