    Description

    Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

    Location: Dayton, OH

    AT3 Staffing is engaged with a well-established manufacturing company, located in Dayton, OH, in search of a Mechanical Design Engineer. As a mechanical designer, the individual in this role is expected to carry out essential responsibilities with limited direct oversight. Their duties encompass the entire mechanical design scope for automation projects, spanning from initial concept and budgeting during pre-sale phases to detailed design and final project execution.

    Key Responsibilities:

    During the pre-sale phase, participation in the development of viable automation concepts, creation of system design and layout concept drawings, and formulation of budgets for the mechanical scope of the project

    • Labor cost estimation for design and detailing
    • Evaluation of purchased and fabricated components
    • Estimation of assembly costs
    • Coordination of mechanical/control interfaces
    • Following the sale, responsibilities involve timely definition, design, and procurement of mechanical components and hardware necessary for project completion within the established scope.

    Primary Mechanical Design Duties:

    Formal Design-

    • Gathering relevant information and establishing design performance criteria
    • Defining performance attributes such as speed and space constraints
    • Collaboration with controls engineers to integrate controls into designs
    • Detailed design completion
    • Procurement of cost-effective purchased components and fabricated details
    • Liaison with customers and suppliers to gather pertinent design information

    Mechanical Materials Procurement-

    • Obtaining quotes and procuring purchased components
    • Managing bids and procuring fabrications and machined details
    • Coordinating orders and deliveries of mechanical items
    • Managing and developing supplier relationships

    Implementation Roles-

    • Coordinating and expediting the delivery of purchased mechanical components
    • Assisting with mechanical hardware and assembly
    • Troubleshooting performance issues
    • Finalizing 'as-built' documentation

    Other Aspects-

    • Supporting long-term resolution of field-service issues
    • Providing on-site field service support as needed
    • Maintaining division records and files orderly
    • Assisting, supporting, or performing other job functions within department or related areas as required based on business needs

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum requirement: Two-year mechanical engineering technology and/or mechanical engineering degree; preferred: four-year degree
    • Five to ten years of hands-on experience in a mechanical design environment
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Solidworks software for design
    • Experience in designing automated systems with industrial robots, including end-of-arm tooling
    • Familiarity with designing conveyor systems, material handling, and pick & place devices
    • Knowledge of cost-effective machining and fabrication processes
    • Demonstrated project management skills
    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, multitasking ability, and deadline-oriented mindset
    • Attention to detail, accuracy, and conscientiousness
    • Willingness to travel nationwide with up to 25% travel on short notice

    Desirable Experience:

    • Background in tool, die, and fixture design
    • Proficiency in machine tool setup and operation
    • Background in industrial robot and CNC machine tool programming
