    Description

    Total-Rewards-of-an-Allied-Health-VA-Career-Nursing Assistant - Duties include, but are not limited to:Nursing Assistants assists nursing staff with patient transport to various areas within the hospital including ED, wards, critical care units, clinics, diagnostic and treatment areas, an to their waiting care for discharge.

    Bring patients back from waiting area-to the dressing area (explain what to remove)-assist them to the assigned stretcher. Make comfortable with warm blankets.
    Assist patient when surgery/procedure has been cancelled or when they are ready for discharge; get family, dc IV. assist to dress, etc.
    QC the glucometer and performs CBG as necessary.

    Re-stock and maintain changing rooms, wipe down surfaces, hang clean gown, set out footies, keep boxes of gloves available.

    Assist patients with going to the bathroom, answer call lights.
    Can apply SCDs or TED hose on patients as necessary.
    Perform EKGs when needed.
    Nursing Assistants assists in providing messenger type activities and other ancillary support activities for the OR nursing staff including:

    Delivering specimens to the labs.
    Delivering equipment/supplies to/from other departments.
    Delivering patients belongings.
    Checking the blanket/fluid warmer and stocking it up as needed.
    Restocking with linens and pillows.
    Locating the stretchers and bringing them back to the OR/PACU areas.
    Transporting the OR/PACU equipment to and from storage areas.
    Maintaining environmental safety by organizing the areas and hallways to keep them clutter-free.

    Nursing Assistants assists in getting the area ready for the next day by restocking, organizing equipment, and making surgical beds.

    Nursing Assistants must wear personal protective equipment when interacting with the patients.
    Nursing Assistants must comply with infection control policies/ procedures.
    Nursing Assistants must comply with HIPPA and information security policies/procedures.
    Nursing Assistants must report all incidents and/or accidents to the supervisor immediately.

    Nursing Assistants must treat all patients, visitors, employees, and volunteers with respect, understand the mission and the vision of the Charles George VA Medical Center and uphold organizational core values; Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence.

    Nursing Assistants performs other direct and indirect patient-care related tasks as assigned by the Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, and charge nurse.

    Work Schedule:
    Monday-Friday varying tours to include 6:00 am to 2:30 pm; 6:30 am to 3:00 pm; 7:30 am to 4:00 pm


    Paid Time Off:
    37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

    Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.


    Parental Leave:


    After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.


    Child Care Subsidy:


    After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.
