    AECOM is seeking a Senior Archaeologist/Archaeology Supervisor to join our team in our Sacramento, CA office. The Senior Archaeologist/Archaeology Supervisor would coordinate closely with the Sacramento architectural historians and would be a key member of the Northern California Cultural Resources Group which also includes staff in AECOM's Oakland and San Francisco offices. The successful candidate would be a core member of the AECOM cultural resources practice and would work closely with AECOM's team of cultural resource specialists in southern California, Arizona, the Pacific Northwest, and Hawaii.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

    • Coordinating and implementing technical work, conducting technical reviews, and expanding our cultural resource team in Sacramento.
    • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
    • Business development, including prospective client outreach, participation in interviews, and scope and budget development.
    • Contributing to technical approaches and cost estimates for proposals.
    • Performing project management duties such as forecasting, tracking, accounting updates, invoicing, progress reports, and scheduling.
    • Performing client management duties such as recurring status meetings, milestone check-ins, and day-to-day interfacing.
    • Reviewing contracts for understanding of scope, fee, schedule, and deliverables, and all other contractual obligations.
    • Developing work breakdown structure for control and integrity of work to be performed as and defined by the contract.
    • Monitoring and analyzing project costs, commitments, accruals, and changes, and taking corrective action where necessary.
    • Effectively manage schedules and budgets for several simultaneous assignments.
    • Collection and compilation of cultural resources data in support of CEQA and NEPA, and Section 106.
    • Work closely with Project Managers, staff, agencies, and clients to accomplish project objectives.
    • Successfully manage cultural resources tasks on both large and small projects.
    • Supervise cultural resource staff and project teams in the field, office, and laboratory, as needed.
    • Interview and hire temporary and full-time archaeology staff for the Sacramento office.
    • Complete cultural resource assignments with strong attention to detail.
    • Coordinate with Federal, State, and local agencies on project issues related to cultural resources.
    • Perform technical data analysis and reporting for various CEQA, NEPA and project permitting documents.
    • Obtain permits from federal land management agencies and state agencies to access their confidential records and utilize them in report writing.
    • Work with tribes and support federal, State, and local agency tribal consultations.
    • Work on interdisciplinary teams of subject matter experts and planners.
    • Complete project management training to become a certified AECOM project manager.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • BA/BS in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field plus 6 years of relevant experience in demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology and cultural resources management.
    • Current valid driver's license is required.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master's Degree or PhD in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related field preferred.
    • 10 years of experience in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology and cultural resources management.
    • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a supervisory capacity in the field or in the office.
    • Meet the Secretary of the Interior's professional qualification standards for Archaeology.
    • Experience managing or mentoring staff at all levels.
    • Experience supervising large crews and/or multiple crews on a variety of project types and sizes, regions, and agencies.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework for cultural resources, including the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), and California cultural resources rules and regulations.
    • Demonstration of excellent technical writing skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience managing cultural resources management projects, including budgets, scheduling, and scopes of work.
    • Experience leading/assisting with tribal consultation and familiarity with tribal representatives for California tribes.
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues, agencies, and clients.
    • Proficiency in the use of GPS receivers and associated devices (e.g. tablets) for GPS data collection.
    • Relevant field experience in California and/or Western US.
    • Advanced knowledge in one or more specialty scientific areas (e.g., lithic or faunal analysis; osteology; or historical archaeology).
    • Experience working with an interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts and planners.

    Additional Information

    • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.
    • Offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $92,000.00 – $160,000.00.
