    SUMMARY

    Hennepin Healthcare has a current opening for a Radiology Student Tech Assistant in our Radiology (X-Ray) department. This part-time (0.4 FTE) will work Saturdays and Sundays from 7:00am to 3:30pm. This individual will assist radiology technologists with x-ray exams, provide direct patient care.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assists patients with activities (ex. changing for exams). Escorts patients on foot or transports patients on carts, beds, or in wheelchairs
    • Responds to patient call lights in a timely manner, identifies patient needs, and provides patients with appropriate response or communicates needs to appropriate team member
    • Adequately prepares room for procedures
    • Reviews and verifies exam requests to ensure the correct exam is ordered on the correct patient
    • Ensures patients receive the same level of care as provided on patient's unit
    • Explains exam procedure to patient and family members who are present
    • Using principles of Patient & Family Centered Care, develops and maintains a positive working relationship with patient and family, team members, department, and medical center personnel
    • Utilizes EPIC system appropriately (orders, scheduling documentation, and billing)
    • Performs downtime procedures (manual operations) when computer systems or equipment fails
    • Maintains equipment and room in proper working condition and troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment. Reports malfunctions and necessary repairs to proper personnel as soon as issue is recognized
    • Respects and uses equipment appropriately
    • Reports incidents involving themselves and the equipment when it happens
    • Procures and stocks equipment and supplies and ensures that equipment is operable and clean
    • Ensures patient and supply rooms are properly stocked. Disposes of trash, linens, and supplies in an appropriate manner
    • Greets and relays information to appropriate team members, physicians, or family members
    • Performs clerical duties in EHR; answers phones and triages calls appropriately
    • May perform various technical procedures after training, competency validation, and upon delegation from a Radiology Technologist, such as maintaining oxygen
    • Supports unit and medical center compliance with Regulatory standards, customer service and other initiatives. Follows hospital policy in handling and securing medications. Follows ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principle
    • May assist with patient positioning under the supervision of a radiology technologist
    • Performs additional duties/projects as assigned


    QUALIFICATIONS
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Completion of one semester of clinical rotation with an accredited x-ray technology program
    • Possess current CPR certification or obtain within 4 months of employment
    • Must be currently enrolled in a formal educational Radiologic Technology program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the ARRT
    • Must intend to complete program and obtain certification by the ARRT as a Registered Technologist

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Limited X-Ray Operators license to perform x-rays
