As a Principal Digital Hardware Engineer
, you will be the lead product hardware designer working as part of a collaborative team to design cutting edge products. You will be responsible for the design and implementation of the hardware system. You will drive hardware decisions during all phases of the product lifecycle and will collaborate with our world class firmware, software, and RF designers to implement final product.

world-class Engineering Team, a leading provider of dense, rugged, secure microelectronics solutions for next generation defense applications. As a part of our
Microwave Business Unit, together we design, develop, and produce high-value radio frequency (RF), microwave and millimeter wave subassemblies and components for military and space markets.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Collaborate with engineering team to design modular, open-architecture hardware platforms
Lead component selection process to meet design requirements
Circuit board design:
from schematic capture to layout, test, and documentation
Develop the functional specifications for
data conversion and processing electronics
Ensure that PCB layout meets design requirements
Collaborate with PCB layout designers to ensure that performance requirements can be met
Consult with the Mechanical design team to develop product designs
Capture system specifications and performance requirements
Work with customer support team to reproduce and resolve customer issues
Lead design team in bring-up and test of hardware products
Develop device verification tests to verify product capabilities and requirements
Support the execution of verification and validation testing
Responsible for the release of the engineering design package
Communicate project status and risks to executive team
Consult on technical proposals and system design
Drive processes for defining and documenting system and subsystem architectures including new features and expanded technical capabilities on the technical roadmap, such as system-on-chip (SoC), flash memory, and high-speed electronics
Identify and lead improvements and optimizations and sets the standard for architecture maintenance activities
Provide technical oversight to the implementation team based on defined architecture considering standards such as FACE, MOSA, and HOST
Sustainment of released products
End-of-Life (EOL) planning of major components in existing products
Develop hardware improvements to resolve issues encountered in released products
Engage in process improvements to resolve issues in design and manufacturing
Supporting operations with transition of new design to production
Supporting peer design reviews and process improvements
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and minimum of 8 years of electrical engineering experience in design, manufacturing, or sustainment or a Graduate Degree (MS/PhD) and a minimum of 6 years of prior related work experience
Experienced with complex Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design process
Familiar with FPGA and Programmable Logic design: from architecture and design to simulation, verification, and validation
This position requires you to have
or are able to obtain
a government security clearance. Security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens.
Desired Qualifications:
Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering
Experience as a technical lead or team leader
Experience with Xilinx and Altera design flows
Experience with digital hardware design (i.e., MCU, SPI, RS232/485, etc.)
Skilled at PCB layout analysis and review (Cadence, Allegro)
Experience using Hardware Engineering Design tools such as Cadence Concept, Cadence Capture, Allegro PCB Designer, SPICE, HyperLynx, Mentor Graphics Valydate
Experience with high-speed digital interfaces such as SATA, I2C, ARINC 429, RS-422, RS-232
Experience with military test standards, such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and MIL-STD-704
Experience with system level troubleshooting for digital, analog, and power circuits
Experience with environmental chamber and stress testing
Experience with scripting and diagnostics
Experience with requirements traceability tools such as JAMA, DOORS
Design with Industrial and Military Grade Components and Operating Environments
Design for Reliability (DFR), Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Cost (DFC)
Design with Radiation Tolerant Grade Components and Operating Environments
Knowledgeable on high-speed serial communication design and layout best practices
