Job Summary/Basic Functions
Job Duties:
Virginia State University (VSU), a public, comprehensive 1890 Land Grant institution and HBCU (Historically Black College/University),invites applications for an Assistant / Associate Professor in the area of Behavioral & Community Health Sciences/Health Psychology.
This is a nine (9) month, tenure-track position, beginning in August of 2024.
About the position:
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in their area of expertise; serve on departmental, college, and university committees; advise/mentor thesis and dissertation students; effectively recruit students for the Health Psychology doctoral program, and participate in scholarly research. The successful candidate must also publish their research in peer-reviewed scholarly journals and present their findings at professional conferences/meetings. The successful candidate will also apply for external funding.
Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
An earned Doctoral degree in Health Psychology, Behavioral or Community Health Sciences, or a related field of Psychology;
An established record of excellence in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate level courses, and a record in professional service that merits appointment to the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, with tenure or tenure-track.
Able to show evidence of research experience and publications in at least one of the preferred research areas: prevention, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, health disparities, cognitive development and health.
Additional Considerations:
Experience in a collegial environment with socially, culturally, and ethnically diverse constituencies;
Teaching experience in Health Psychology, Behavioral and community Health Sciences, or a health-related field at the undergraduate or graduate level.
All candidates must have evidence of research experience, publications, and funding applications connected to the field of Health Psychology.
Community-Based Participatory, health disparities, and health education research is preferred.
