    The Opportunity

    An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Sensory Support Team as an Advisory Teacher of Physical Disability.

    Salary: Dependent on qualifications and experience:

    Teacher MPS £30,000 to £41,333 per annum, pro rata £18,000 to £24,799

    Teacher UPS £43,266 to £46,525 per annum, pro rata £25,959 to £27,915

    + up to SEN 2 (£2,539 - £5,009 per annum)

    Contract Type: Permanent

    Working Pattern: 19.5 hours per week, part time, 3 days per week

    Location: This post is countywide (West Sussex); your base location will be agreed with you at interview

    You must be able to travel throughout the county including to locations that are not always accessible by public transport.

    An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Sensory Support Team as an Advisory Teacher of Physical Disability. The Sensory Support Team is highly regarded by parents and schools, and we are looking for people with a passion for supporting children and young people with physical disabilities to join our team.

    This is an ideal opportunity to develop existing skills and knowledge and for teaching professionals currently working with children and young people with a physical disability.

    This is a permanent contract (19.5 hours per week), countywide role, working with families, early years settings and schools across West Sussex.

    You will be an experienced teacher, with recent experience of working with children and young people with a physical disability in an educational setting.

    Key to this role is delivering planned, comprehensive, co-ordinated support to educational settings, promoting inclusion, and enabling access to the National Curriculum.

    You will have strong personal values and emotional resilience plus the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and families. You should have good IT and organisation skills and be able to work flexibly.

    We are looking for someone who has recent experience of working with children with physical disabilities in a variety of educational settings. You will ideally have up-to-date knowledge and understanding of educational legislation, the SEN code of practice and Ofsted inspection frameworks.

    About You

    To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Qualified Teacher status.
  • Recent experience in working with children with a variety of physical disabilities in an educational setting with particular emphasis on ensuring access to the curriculum.
  • Recent experience of working in a school.
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum.
  • Knowledge of current SEND Legislation.
  • Experience of working as part of a team and evaluating and planning support for children and young people with SEND.

    Our Sensory Support Team (SST) is part of WSCC's Learning Service, focusing on better learning outcomes for children and young people. The SST is an advisory service, working with families, pre-schools, and schools in West Sussex, effectively delivering the statutory responsibilities and strategic priorities in the Education and Schools policy.

    SST support the educational and developmental needs of children and young people with physical disabilities, hearing and visual impairments. SST aims to ensure that reasonable adjustments, inclusion support and the Equalities Act are carried out. Central to the SST is partnership working with families and schools, to provide a coordinated and holistic multi-agency approach to meet the needs of children and young people with visual, hearing, and physical disabilities.
