- Up to 10 hours/week during Teacher hiring (May 6 – 24; 3 weeks)
- Up to 20 hours/week during pre-program planning and organizing (late-May through June 21; 4 weeks)
- Up to 32 hours/week June 24 – July 3 (training and planning; 2 weeks)
- Up to 32 hours/week July 8- August 16 (6-week program)
- Week of August 19: Program evaluation and reporting (approximately 24 hours)
- June 26, 27 & 28 = Staff Training Days (subject to change based on end-of-school schedules).
- July 1 - 3: Additional training or program prep days as needed.
- July 4 & 5 off (clubs closed)
- Conduct interviews with Teacher candidates; select Teachers
- Assist Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Branch Directors with hiring of Teacher Assistants
- Directly supervise and coach Summer Learning Program staff: Instructional Coach, Teachers, Teacher Assistants
- Assist Branch Directors/Program Directors/Childcare Directors in guidance of staff who conduct the academic activities and afternoon enrichment activities that are part of SLP grant
- Work with Director of Operations and Branch Directors to plan and carry out pre-program training.
- Train all staff involved with Summer Learning Program in program requirements, goals, benchmarks, day-to-day strategies and practices of the program, data collection, etc.
- Train Teachers and Teacher Assistants in pre- and post-program STAR testing.
- Organize and distribute BELL curriculum materials to Teachers
- Coordinate with CHRO and Branch Directors to ensure that all SLP staff complete required trainings before working with youth: BGCA online training, Personnel Policies training, Operations & Safety Manual training (including emergency response, child safety policies, etc.)
- Guide SLP Teachers and staff in handling of behavior issues (following BGCP policies)
- Orient and train Teachers and other staff
- Conduct site visits to monitor program quality
- Interact with Branch/Site Directors to ensure afternoon enrichment activities required for SLP grant are integrated into afternoon program
- Organize, promote, and execute program registration strategies
- Create and distribute pre-program communications (flyers, parent information, registration materials, etc.)
- Plan daily program schedule
- Organize site assignments and staff schedules of Teachers and Teacher Assistants
- Work with Branch/Program/Childcare Directors at each SLP site to direct pre-program physical room preparations (room configurations, use of program spaces, etc.)
- Oversee SLP program operations at two sites
- Provide oversight to daily program; coach staff in day-to-day carrying out of program activities
- Create and distribute weekly parent communication (newsletter?) (as required by grant)
- Coordinate (or oversee coordination of) special events such as field trips, celebrations, recognition events, etc.
- Monitor staff hours to stay within Summer Learning Program budget
- Organize supply purchasing following BGCP purchasing policies
- Monitor SLP expense line items to stay within budget
- Create systems for collecting required data
- Train staff in required data collection
- Collect, organize, and analyze data
- Compile grant reports and other required reports (PPSD, etc.)
- 4-year degree in Education or related field (required)
- RI Teaching Certification-elementary level (required)
- At least 3 years of Elementary Education teaching experience
- Experience teaching in urban schools impacted by high poverty (preferred)
- Experience with leading, supervising, and coaching Teachers (required)
- Demonstrated knowledge of RI education quality standards (required)
- Experience with intervention techniques designed to improve student learning in foundational skills of literacy and math (required)
- Experience with out-of-school-time programs (preferred)
- Experience with community-based partnerships (preferred)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence, in partnership with the Providence Public School District, is preparing for the 6th summer of our impactful Summer Learning Program (SLP). The Summer Learning Program is designed to help children in Grades 1-6 (rising) advance academic skills during the summer so they can "hit the ground running" when school starts in the Fall Teachers and Teacher Assistants guide participants through fun and engaging BellXcel literacy and math activities in the morning, while our Youth Development Specialists and Activity Leaders lead afternoon fun in sports and games, arts, outdoor play, S.T.E.M., service projects, field trips and lots more 5 years of data shows that participants in our Summer Learning Program not only avoid summer learning loss, but they actually grow their literacy and math skills by a month or more over a 6-week program
